Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Try over 100lbs heavier than most 450cc dirt bikes, let alone smaller 250cc variants.

You want a big and fast offroad bike get yourself a 950/990 Adventure. Throw some TrailAttacks on it and she'll tear up the paved track too. Damn, I really miss my 950 Adventure. I actually regret selling it off to get the big touring Vaquero. I might have to swap my Kawi out for a 990 come spring time, or maybe the new 1190 Adventure.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Ya an extra 100 lbs of your average 450. But cog is waaaaayyyyyyyy lower, making the duc less wobbly and smoother. Just won't change over from one direction to another.

That guy would have an easier time if he flipped and turned out the clip ons.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Better to slap street tires on a dirt bike than to slap dirt tires on a street bike.

That Duc is significantly lighter than my 950 Adventure was, but I doubt it could ever compete in the same arena with equal/same riders. The Duc also makes way more power than can be harnessed effectively. Even on the new 150hp 1190 Adventures (engine taken from the RC8) the computer detunes down to 100hp in off-road mode.

Even with some mods done to the suspension I doubt that Duc is good for anything more than the peat gravel and relatively smooth dirt roads they showed in that video clip.

Here is a much better example of a Ducati turned dirt bike:

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Even better, go get yourself an old Sportster and convert it into this

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Had a friend that made a sportster into a dirtbike back in the mid 60, it was actually pretty decent as a trail bike ,you just didn't want to be ahead of it when going down steep hills as the brakes sucked . Personelly i see no need for a 100 hp dirtbike .i can hurt myself just fine on a honda 125

The Colorado BS thread

Well the point of my 950 Adventure was dual sport touring. It wasn't meant for single track and course running. Load it up with camping gear and go explore the world with out fear of dirt roads and rough terrain.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Likei sid it wasn't built for jumping or anything ridiculous. But with a good rider that bike could be a blast on some of the back roads here in Colorado. Stuff like rampart would be a blast on that thing. And the suspension on the duc is better than most ofther tuned setups on your gsxr's and such. a lot of high end stuff in the front of those, and aside from travel limitations are a bagillions times stronger and quality than the dinky telescopic forks pictured on that monster.

Its like comparing 6" travel ori's to 14" travel procomp es shocks. ya the travel is there but the quality and ridabliity is not even in the same ballpark.....

Re: The Colorado BS thread

wholly shitty articulation, batman... and I've had the WJ wheeling several times. kindof.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I am ready to kill the wife's jeep.
Can anyone lend a hand tomorrow and help me get it back on the road?
I installed a new distributor and it won't start now.
I need someone to come by and help figure it out.
I've tried all the normal stuff. Firing order is correct. Plugs are getting spark.
Got tdc figured out. I'm at my breaking point.
Does anyone who knows more about this than me want to come by and help?
Ill pay for your time. I have to get her jeep back on the road by Sunday morning. I have all day tomorrow to work on it.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I messed up by not marking it before removal. Now I'm trying to find the correct position.
i get it all lined up to what should be correct position. And still nothing. I've gone through several tutorials including asking Led. I just can't seem to get it right.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Put the cap on, mark the housing at the #1 terminal.

Bring the #1 cylinder to TDC:
Remove all the plugs.
While holding your finger over the #1 spark plug hole, turn the crank by hand until you feel compression building up.
Slowly turn the crank by hand until the mark on the balancer is on "0."

Now comes the tedious part, dropping in the distributer housing so the rotor is one tooth past the mark. Don't expect to nail this on the first try, just keep at it until you have it one tooth advanced.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

i swapped out my cam sensor in the distributor and it took 6 or 7 tries ti get it back right. i didnt even try and start it, waited till the rotor was at number 1 then finished it off and it worked.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Dunno but that's one odd setup for a hitch/tire carrier.

For a second there..... I thought that 1x6 was supporting the jeep by its rocker panel.....:looney:

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Any recommendations on bed liner coaters along the front range? There's a good chance I'll be picking up my new truck this weekend and it needs a bed liner something fierce.

I'm not a brand whore, so it doesn't have to be Line-X.

I've only ever done DIY style...
