You can tell it is photoshop cause of the roof rack. Passenger side has three legs, driver only two.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Let it be known that I'm doing axles again. No fab work right now, just axles and simple maintenance/install work.

Thanks,

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I had to attend another Risk Management course yesterday - this time for the DOT and I learned all about Towing & Trailer safety. Here's an interesting tidbit that I didn't know.

For everyone that tows a trailer with a rig on it, you might be interested to know how to calculate the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) on your trailer. The manufacturer should always include a load capacity rating plate/stamp to the chassis of the trailer. This load capacity shows the Maximum Gross Payload that can be carried by that particular trailer. Most people (including myself) would see that number and think they can carry a payload up to that weight.

But that is incorrect...

The GVWR is calculated by taking the Maximum Gross Payload rating and subtracting the weight of the trailer itself from that number. The remainder is the actual amount that the trailer can legally carry for its payload.

An Example of this is:

A tandem-axle car hauler has a GVWR rating of 7,000lbs. The trailer itself weighs 3,000lbs, so the actual Maximum Payload that the trailer can handle is 4,000lbs - not 7,000lbs. Every manufacturer can calculate their GVWR differently so I would highly recommend that if you do a lot of hauling, for you to check with your manufacturer to see how their math is done.

So why is this important?

As our economy has been on a downturn, there has been a large increase in weight fines for people that are "overloading" their trailers. Authorities that, in the past, have looked the other direction are now becoming less lax in-order to build up their revenue. In my industry, we're seeing it a lot in Contractors that are being pulled over by CHP.

I would recommend that all of you get familiar with your Tongue Transfer laws for your region and make sure that you're not "overloading" your trailers. Additionally, if an accident were to occur involving an overloaded trailer, your insurance carrier may argue that the driver showed "Negligence" and deny the claim. Remember, ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Be safe, guys...

There is a shop in Golden near I-70 and Colfax that deals strictly with unimogs and the like.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

........ so I had to hastily exit and check them out.........Manufacturer test cars all with Georgia MFG plates and no badging......

....... and up pulled a production model.....2013 Porsche 918..... each copy a mere $845,000........

The guys out with the cars were cool enough, but unfortunately only spoke German..... or at least that's what they wanted me to believe. They had no problems with me taking photos..... They even fired up the yellow one..... AMAZING sound. The spoilers are adjustable by computer and manually, and the tail lights actually open outward to allow for more air flow past them at high speed. The Sprinter vans are the support vehicles. One had the side doors open, full of tires and parts with a tire changer and balancing machines.

....... but apparently they don't want any photos of what is obviously a future Porsche SUV in prototyping/testing. Likely the 2014 "Macan". The covers had steel cable draws along the bottom secured with heavy pad locks..... and small windows in the covers to show what number prototype/vehicle it is.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Just an FYI...

Everybody in Germany speaks English. It is a required language. On the other hand, claiming not to be able to speak English saved them a ton of questions...

Interesting designs and at $845k, the black beasty is a bargain to be sure. The 918 is one of just a few models built that carry a V-8 in them. This example has a 887Hp 940FtLb producing 4.6 Litre in it. That works out to 192.826 (and change) horse per litre. Not too shabby that.

Don't know about you guys, but being able to safely drive to 211MPH would be plenty fast enough for me...

0-60 time? 2.8 seconds. I know, what a slug eh?

A few sneak peak shots off a certain quick and angry movie set I was workin on today. I have some video but can't post off phone. There is more money in the Camaro than naxja rigs combined.

Decked out chase truck for filming.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

So, wait... what? You're the unknown stuntman that makes redford look so good? :eyes:

The Colorado BS thread

Actually it depends on where in Germany you're at. Former West Germany is very fluent in English. Former East Germany not so much. However, Porsche is based in Stuttgart (southwest Germany) and they should speak English.

I've managed to catch a Mercedes team doing testing on a new sedan, but not a Porsche team. That's awesome. Too bad that car looks like a group of Lotus Elise's gangbanged a 911 and this is the result.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

From the highway I was thinking they were a group of Lotus Elise's too. They're quite a bit larger than the Elise..... very similar in size to the Veyron. I was just surprised to see SIX of this kind of "super car" being used.

The rear tires on those things were incredible. Looked like sections of rubber coated culvert pipe with debris strainer caps. Crazy to see so much suspension arm stuck so deep into a wheel.

At first I was thinking "How does a guy get such an awesome job."

Then I realized that those cars probably ride like absolute crap with those low profile tires and racing suspension. Especially on Colorado roads........ The seats looked REALLY uncomfortable for sitting in for any length of time.

Nice!

Get to meet any of the "quick and angry" crew?

Re: The Colorado BS thread

No this was all stunt stuff. Actual driving and hucking cars off mountains. Got to chat with big guy from universal and a lot of the drivers. One wadded up a new Mercedes coupe getting a little to aggressive. Took out some trees and destroyed the car.
The actors were gonna be green screened in.
