Just don't buy it from that guy on craigslist.

Go to the junkyard and buy a complete axle for $125, order the perches, and don't let a monkey with a stick set it up.

You never regeared?

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Huh. Ok. I will take all this info in. I think for the level of wheeling I am starting with I might just save $$$ for when I break the 35. Put on sliders and a gas tank skid and use the stock x member to add a skid underneath behind the new x member.

Any jy's around more likley to have the 8.8 or 8.25?

That D35 is liable to break if you hit the throttle too hard on your way to Starbucks, let alone actually wheeling.

8.25 is decently strong and can be had cheap. 8.8 is even stronger but costs more to install. It's a better axle in the long run though and with stock shafts can support 37's.

...fact! Happened to me a few weeks ago!

I backed out of my driveway, shifted into 1st and let the clutch out and heard an nice loud POP! After opening it up im seeing multiple broken teeth on both the ring and pinion gears... Also little pieces of my limited slip were falling out... And I'm only turning 31's! It's not a matter of IF your will break that 35, its WHEN!

Yeah but driving over your neighbors lawn does not constitute as wheeling.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

pics or it didn't happen. :D

I actually did get pics doing some light stuff at rainbow falls.....even pulled a tire once or twice.....shit I'll go find um

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Other than here and Craigslist where is a good place to find said axels? A 8.25 require a new u joint other than stock?.....where did that search button go lol.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

PM Yellaheep, I'm betting he has a 8.25 in your gear flavor, or better, just waiting for a buyer!

Yes, you'll need the flange adapter from either an aerostar or ranger w/ an 8.8 rear axle.

You'll also need new spring perches, u-bolts, spring plates, and shock mounts. You'll probably want some wheel spacers too because the axle is a little narrower than stock.

You can still do this all within your remaining budget and you'll get disc brakes, a beefy axle, and potentially a limited slip. Depending on what gear ratio you're running now they come available w/ 3.55, 3.73, or 4.10 stock. The 3.73 ones seem to be the most common to also have a limited slip, but if you're crafty at the junkyard you can do a quick carrier swap if the ratio you want isn't available with one. There is no carrier break on the 8.8, but on 4.56 or numerically higher you'll either need a special cross pin or you'll have to grind a few teeth down a bit to get a stock cross pin back in.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Axle gearing is not something I have done before. I have done lots of everything else though. The 8.8 is about 1.75 inches narrower. And the flange is something I haven't heard of. Google here I come.....wow jeeps are more involved then I thought....

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I know a guy up in Firestone that does gears so well and cheap its worth the drive and subsequent hangover. :D

But if u go up there I need a ride so I can contribute to the subsequent hang over

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I have a guy but he don't know rock crawling stuff....humm I just might have to see.....a bit down the road still. Thinking rock sliders from jcr er what ever it is called. Then to find a 8.8 or 8.25 seems to be one of those two, just cause I won't be doing anything like carnage so I don't need d60 or similar....yet lol

Re: The Colorado BS thread

PM seriousoffroad and get your sliders locally -- he just might do gear setups too ;)
