Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

11.9@121. I can't slip the clutch, it'll smoke it.. stock parts. So that was a clutch dump at 4k, which made for a nice pic but then it set right down and got a crappy 1.8 60 foot. Hopefully with a clutch I'll be able to slip it from 5k and get down into the 1.5 60 foots where it should be. 121 mph goes with a high 10/ low 11 sec. ET. Your buddy's car would probably lose about .8 and 10mph up here, altitude sucks.

A SPEC stage3 should fit the bill. I put one in my 97 Cobra and it made a world of difference!

Police: Robber With Knife Topped By Victim Pulling Gun
Robber Ran Off When Victim At Car Wash Pulled Gun Instead Of Wallet, Police Say

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo -- A would-be robber wielding a knife got a surprise when the victim pulled a handgun, Colorado Springs police said.

The attempted robber ran away, police said.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Power Wash at 3730 Randall Drive, police said. A man was sitting in his car, which he had just finished washing. Another man walked up, pulled a knife on the victim and demanded his money, police said.

"The victim reached for what the suspect thought was a wallet, but was actually a semi-auto handgun," a police report said. "The victim pointed his gun at the suspect, who immediately fled on foot."

The robber ran into an open space area, and officers using a tracking dog were unable to find him, police said.

The robber was described as a Hispanic man who was about age 25. He was last seen wearing baggy blue shorts and a dark T-shirt.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

tempting, but then you'd need to hire a shyster like me, since CO's make my day law is inapplicable in business/non-home settings. Sure, common law gives you the right of self defense, but you will have the burden of proving that you actually feared for your life in escalating the scene to homicide, with a doped out and feeble "attacker", and if you fail, you're the criminal. Not saying I disagree with your rationale, but displaying and watching the asshat run is probably the right choice in this situation -- perhaps he'll learn something from it and think twice next time he tries to rob someone, knowing they may well be better armed than he is.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Let me clarify. I wouldn't have killed him. However it is my opinion that this person was most likely a repeat offender. And I really doubt having a gun pulled on him and then him getting away will deter him from trying it again. It is very possible next time he will try to rob a defenseless little old lady, she fights backs, he stabs her and she dies.

And that is where my opinion ends as I dont want something I said to come back and haunt me.

Unless you live out of your car. I spoke to a DA that had a case where a person was living in his van and a man tried to break into it while the defendant was asleep and he was protected under make my day.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

that's the kind of jurisdictional prosecutorial discretion, likely varying from DA to DA, that I'd like to avoid... I think I'll try not to live in my Jeep!

I'll respectfully disagree and say that there's plenty of legal precident out there to defend shooting a knife wielding robbery/assault suspect that favors the shooter.

21 feet is a very understood and justifiable distance to establish a very reasonable threat. Many self defense disciplines dealing with knife tactics talk about "lunging distance" and use the 21 foot rule. So much so that even Taser Corp. builds it's ballistic taser cartridges with 21 feet of wire...... its an "if ya can't get the taser to contact the suspect, the threat wasn't there" kind of rationale.

If you're in your car and a guy presents a knife at a distance as close as your open car door telling you to give him your money...... the consequence for NOT giving him your money has been reasonably established..... the robber intends to cut you and potentially kill you with the knife.

I can't imagine a jury anywhere that'd convict the shooter of murder or manslaughter in such a situation..... unless the robber was shot in the back.

I hate to see anyone here suggest that if you're armed with a handgun and you draw that weapon in response to a credible threat....... that you should hesitate for a moment to see if the presentation of the gun will stop the threat. Things happen much too quickly to hang your hopes on presentation.

Most concealed carry classes teach that if you draw your firearm, you should have the intention to use it.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I agree with everything you're saying Yella, and didn't mean to imply otherwise. Rather I was simply pointing out that the safe haven statutory protections and presumptions under Colorado's "make my day" law are inapplicable outside the home (business amendment failed last year), meaning you are forced to rely upon common law self defense theory, and demonstrate the reasonableness of your actions. That said,

I can't imagine a jury anywhere that'd convict the shooter of murder or manslaughter in such a situation.....

perhaps true in this part of the country, but east of here there, and perhaps in some local pockets, there are plenty of folks that wouldn't see it that way...

I think given the lily-livered reaction of this particular scumbag, that well might have been the case here... not good self defense evidence.

Anyone with a firearm that doesn't agree shouldn't be carrying a firearm.:sunshine:

Re: The Colorado BS thread

If I were confronted by an armed robber/thief, there would be no doubt of my reaction! He/She would have no chance to turn and run, it would be over in seconds! An unarmed robber/thief is another matter and they would have a chance to run before things go bad for them.
