Re: The Colorado BS thread

That looks like a great place to work!

That 73 Nova is sweet! My 1st car was a Nova and it looked just like that one, except mine had a different suspension. Lol

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Almost gave a WJ a bad evening last night. Driving through the Safeway parking lot, and some guy being a dumbass was going cross country through the parking lot, excessively fast. Good thing he had really good brakes, because I don't think the massive Warn bumper on the front of my rig, would have turned out very well for his drivers side quarter panel. Damn WJ owners :D

Seriously, those WJ owners.

Most of them have those 22" DUBS and HUGE Subs....

Re: The Colorado BS thread

totally. they're compensating for something.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Alright. Question for you computer/electrical guys... Tom, Kastien, ya there?

The Mustang I'm building has air suspension. The suspension came as a kit... bags, compressor, valves, electronic controls, the works. The controls consist of an ECU and a little controller with a screen (see below), which communicate with each other via mini-USB.
Well, we're not using the controller, instead they want me to use these pushbuttons, one for up and one for down. Not the on/off pushbuttons, the kind that you hold down and the car will go lower until you let it go. I tried telling the bossman that we should just use the controller cause we don't have time to do this chit, but he's pretty set on the pushbuttons (car needs to be ready by the 10th).
I can't figure out a good way to do this.

Pushbutton:

This is the controller (without the plastic shell and fancy buttons).
IMG_1260.jpg

Here's why its a problem. Each of the 4 contact button things on the top and bottom control up or down for each corner... yes, this controls each corner separately, and I need them to all work with one pushbutton. The real problem here is that that's a multi-layer chip... only the LEDs are on the top. The buttons are in the 2nd or 3rd layer and therefore I can't get to them. I can't go directly to the ECU because I don't know how to make that work with the USB cable and all.

ECU is the black box just under the compressor with the 5 threaded connectors on it (with one plugged in, this is the controller cable, the rest are for height sensors).

See those holes in the dash, in the center console? Yeah, those up/down buttons occupy 2 of those holes. If I can't make this work, we could just use the controller, but then we'll have two holes in the dash

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Hmm... your best bet is probably to set the ecu and the control panel aside and roll your own controller. Probably not hard but I won't be able to really spend much time on thinking about how to do it till Monday and I can't even guarantee much then :( another thing you can do is wire a bunch of optoisolators or relays up to the separate button positions on the board and drive them all with that big wonky button. I have to say I'd probably want the one button instead too, or maybe one button each for front and rear.

Off to the airport at 5am... going home. Wish I had more time outside the lab while I was here, today was my second day off in 3 weeks.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

It's pretty lame that you have to reinvent the wheel Mason. Are you sure there are no auxillary inputs for that fancy controller?

If you can't figure this one out, tell the boss it's over your head. Someone who understands controls would thank you to not jack it up for trying.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Didn't read the whole post but when do you need this? I have a little bit of experience in this :)

I have a pickup in the garage we are slamming right now.

By the way, 67's have a special place in my heart. My first hotrod was a brand new 67 I bought and proceeded to slice and dice.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I had my heart broken today: The evil corporate bastards who bought out Pull-n-Save now own Western. There went the neighborhood!

Oh yeah! I saw a front D-60 laying on the ground under an '04 F-350. The housing, carrier, gears, cover, passenger shaft and knuckle, and both calipers were still there. The driver's knuckle had the steering arm broken off, but was still attached.

Yes, I saw it at Western.
