arty::lecture:I WON! I actually won a battle with the healthcare industry. I had a CT scan done at Memorial Hospital under a program that advertised the cost as $75 for persons at risk. Since I started doing "experiments" in an unventilated basement when I was 11 years old with chemicals that today would put me on the FBI and EPA's watch list, worked in chemistry labs before many safety requirements that exist today were in place, and was a heavy smoker for 25 years, I was at risk.
Got the results, I was fine, and then I received an unexpected bill from a Radiology and Imaging company for another $145. Eventually, I got around to calling them, but they had an automated system that wouldn't connect to a human. I called Memorial at least 4 times, twice getting a promise of a callback from a supervisor, which never happened, for no result. I finally got a hold of a person at the radiology billing dept. and all I could do was pay, or tell them I refused to pay, which I did.
I was mad, :banghead::gonnablow so I sent off the letter to the editors of the Gazette referenced above. I also sent a copy of the letter to Memorial. Lo, and behold, 2 days later, I got an email from Memorial stating they would investigate. Today, I got a phone call from the radiology dept of Memorial which claimed it was a computer error, and I wouldn't have to pay.
