Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Yes, but sadly, it's the only way some people seem to learn (or not).

On the other side of the coin...
I got pulled over for a "random DUI check" a while back; not at a checkpoint.

Not speeding or any improper vehicle operation, current tags, no light or other vehicle problems/malfunctions. Stone cold sober, DDing the roommates; so I went along with the roadside. After I passed, I asked why I was stopped, and that's when LEO(Thornton) said that it was a "random check."

WTH is that!? I've never heard of anybody being pulled over for absolutely no reason other than to administer a "random" roadside. LEO even told me that he had no other reason to pull me over! Boredom? Borderline harassment/power trip?

He probably hadn't met his ticket quota for the day and thought he could get lucky and snag a DUI.

Uh... how long ago was that? Troy can correct me if I'm wrong but unless the county ordered the offer to perform "random DUI checks" they need a valid point of contact to be able to do anything. If they pull you over for having a headlight out or something, and it turns out that your headlights work fine, you could be sitting on a kilo of crack and they can't do anything.
I usually don't argue with cops but that's one that I would have.

also got the engine bay of the MJ cleaned up. Only brakes left in there and everything else is painted and looks newish :D

Yeah, that stop Kujito posted about sounds pretty questionable. The cop needs at a minimum "reasonable suspicion" to make a contact, but to stop and detain to ask for identification/registration and to do roadsides, cops need probable cause like bad driving (weaving, failing to stop at a stop sign, or at a minimum an equipment violation like a head light or tail light.)

The only random checks for DUI that are allowed are at checkpoints where it's posted by signs before entering the checkpoint and there's a random order in which the cars are stopped and checked.

Leaving the line lock in it? I don't want it back, just wondering. Not to be used as a parking brake of course.

Ya I think imma leave it in. I imagine it will help me learn the art of two wheel digs

Uh...... why not use as a parking brake? Don't know a whole lot about 'em, but a friend had one on his XJ a few years back - set up on the rear brakes...... seemed to work just fine....... :dunno:

Re: The Colorado BS thread

If the hydraulics fail???

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Ok, so what if a cable snaps, the adjuster brakes, or the brake mechanicals come apart?

It'd be better to say "don't use ANY e-brake as a parking brake unless the vehicle is left in gear and you put blocks under the wheels." :D

If Mike's MJ is gonna be an automatic, it seems to me the line lock would be just fine for a parking brake as long as he doesn't rely on it to keep it parked when in neutral...... which is a good rule of thumb for any vehicle anyway......

Re: The Colorado BS thread

The MJ is gonne stay 5-speed for now. And has a parking brake already anyway ( kick azz foot petal park brake has me contemplating making some cup holders?!?!? )
but back to your conversation. :D

Hmmm, with that pedal, hill-holders would be nice. :)

God was gonna get me anyway!

I still don't like the idea of having all my eggs in one basket. Especially since an economical secondary system is already installed.

I know that another unit will show up while the roadside is administered, but with the number of bored cops in Thornton, there were 3 police cars and 5 cops on scene.

I was only a few hundred yards from home with two drunken, belligerent passengers. The mere fact that I got pulled over had them fired up already. Figured it wasn't worth arguing the issue at the time. I just wanted to go to bed and be done with the whole night.

Pulls 10-15 amps iirc.. heats up a little bit, not designed to hold fluid pressure for long periods of time. It's a good option to hold it for a couple minutes but not longer term.

Ah, different design than what I was thinking of. My buddy's was mechanical. There was a valve with a small foot pad on it on the floor - kinda like the old-school headlight dimmer switches. In it's race application, you'd mash the brake pedal with one foot, then push the line lock with the other foot. One foot on the line lock, the other on the gas and you'd release the line lock by pressing it down again and give 'er hell with the throttle. He used it the same way - but without the follow-thru of the throttle...... :D
