Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

They are aftermarket slotted and dimpled rotors. Dunno what year the axle is from either. Thanks for the help though frank!

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Not sure what year axle you are running (if not a 96), but Mid 99 Jeep switched from Composite rotors to Cast. If you have Composite rotors, but your axle uses cast, then you will have a wheel lock up. The rotor wont seat correctly on the lugs, and once you tighten the lugs, your wheel will lock up (ask me how I know this).

Re: The Colorado BS thread

99.5 is the switchover.

Pop the wheel off, remove the brake rotor, and hold the old bearing next to the new one. If you see a substantial difference between the offset depth from the knuckle to the wheel mounting flange, the new one is the wrong one.

I believe you can use any unit bearing you want so long as you use a brake rotor intended for the same year, but mixing and matching is just asking for trouble on the trail spares-wise, I prefer to keep spare shafts with the unit bearings preinstalled to make things easier.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

kiefer, the axle was from another 96. not the original axle though.
Cool thanks scott. I Believe this bearing from mike is an older unit. Guess i better pull it all apart again. And this is the same side we replaced when i bought the jeep from ya.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I dont mind replacing them often. But its just odd that this would happen now. Guess i gotta pull everything apart again in the morining. I'm too tired to mess with it anymore tonight.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I've got a cadillac CTS-v pan enroute, haven't seen any of those down at Lil'Mexico.
Lemme know when it shows up

I would blame frequent unit bearing failure more on non stock offset wheels than tire size... within reason of course. Stock offset wheels are about 1.25" past centerline, if you look at the thickness of a rotor hat and the depth of a unit bearing, that puts the center of the wheel just about dead on the center of the unit bearing. It's done for a reason, keeps the weight evenly distributed on the bearings instead of the wheel acting as a giant lever. My 0" offset (4" BS) wheels are probably contributing to the death of my unit bearings, but I have enough of em sitting around from spare axle shafts and old junk parts axles that I just don't care...

I also blame it on the wheel spacers on the front end. The BS on my wheels is 4" IIRC. Guess ill get another from troy and see if that doesn't solve the problem... One thing after the other. Guess I got some of the bad luck lately.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Yeah that'll do it too... between the 1.25" space-out from the 4" BS wheels (assuming 8" wide) and the spacers, your wheels are significantly past the centerline of the bearings. Oh well, f*** it run it :dunno: you might have just gotten a run of used unit bearings that were on their last legs and they just died faster after that.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Hoping so. Hope to give yella a call tomorrow and pick another up to see if that doesn't fix it. Thanks for the input fella's!

I hate yappy dogs!
mad.gif

Neighbors behind us have two of the litle $$$$ers and I'm a gnats ass away from drop-kicking the little mutts up and down the street. Can't even walk by a window in our own house and they start barking. I know it's not the dogs fault, it's the owners....but gawd I hate those fookin' things.

Bought an ultrasonic gizmo yesterday and stuck it on a piece of EMT about 5' from the fence. If that doesn't work I'm going to start calling The Law everytime they make a sound.

It makes using our backyard impossible.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I know what you mean Frank, we've got 2 yappers next door to us. If we are in the back yard, they are yapping. Fortunately the owners are cool, and we get along with them well, so the neighbors will usually take them in the house if we are outside for any length of time.
