Coil spring Perches

I am going to mount up my spring perches until i noticed that the closest I can mount them together is 35 inches. On my original axle they were 31 inches apart. I was wondering if a tilt of the perrch would help or not. Iif i just go flat at 35 inches wide will I get a bad spring bow. Also can a spring just set on a flat piece of plat or will it try to bow due to the bottom of a spring no t mounting up exactly flat on the plate.

Thanks,

Nik

Your perches need to be inline with the upper coil mount/pocket and they need to have a recess for the lowest coil so that the spring can sit flat. You might be well off buying RE's perch mounting kit, it comes with control arm mounts too. Or get a local fab shop to build it for you, you pay for experience sometimes but you get a finished product that works. :)

I saw the RE kit. I thought I might try building it.

So If I dont center tem up I will have problems. I have been working on a mill program at college in a machine shop and can produce anthing if better than the old brackets in the shop. Due to the fact that I cant mount the spring mountsthat close by using e's because therr is a plate that is mounted from the old leaf springs that were mounted on the D44. I think it is castinto the pumpkin so I dont think I should mess with it. I dont know I guess I will have to look at it a little more. THen find out what to do.

You'll have to mount your new coil perch half on the cast & half on the tube. Just be sure it's fully welded on ALL sides and you should be fine. I've welded cast many times & depending on the casting it's usually ok.
