What is going on in the Forest Service:
White River NF Draft EIS and TMP response
I spoke with Wendy from the White River regarding the status of the Supplemental DEIS, and it is coming along, per her comments. Look for a Supplemental DEIS soon (probably not until August, but it may be out before then).
Pike San Isabel Forest Plan Revision process – comment period one complete
The Pike San Isabel National Forest has completed its first round for comments on the Forest Plan revision. Meetings were conducted at 8 locations to receive input from user groups on what direction the Forest should go with the Plan revision. Currently the PSI is compiling the data and reviewing it. A second round of comments should occur in the next few months.
Gunnison National Forest
Gunnison is in the process of reviewing initial pre-scoping information received from user groups regarding their upcoming Travel Management Plan. Meeting dates for the scoping portion of the process should be announced and conducted over the late spring/early summer months.
Grand Mesa National Forest
The Grand Mesa National Forest is to release their Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) by the end of March. This will be the first map released in a Colorado Forest. The Map is supposed to be able to be reviewed by the public prior to printing the final version. For anyone that recreates on the Grand Mesa, you need to review this map to make sure we get it right the first time otherwise we will lose trails. This includes any hunters, rancher, persons with grazing permits, and general recreation users including the OHV community.
GMUG Forest Plan Review
The Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests are conducting meetings regarding their Forest Plan Review. These meetings are conducted to review and receive comments from the public on the proposed plan that will effect all three forests for several years going forward. South Platte Ranger District
Randy Hickenbottom, District Ranger for the South Platte, has requested a group of OHV enthusiasts conduct monthly meetings on his ranger district, similar to what is occurring on the Boulder Ranger District. These meetings will discuss and implement projects with clubs that are willing to participate. This is a very important issue and any motorcycle, ATV, or 4x4 club that wants to participate in the monthly meetings needs to contact me at vdouglas@COHVC

The Uncompahgre Field Office is conducting meetings regarding the Travel Management Plan on the Dry Creek area outside of Montrose. This is the area where several 4x4, ATV and motorcycle trails currently exist. The plan can be found at: http://www.co.blm.gov/ubra/UFOTMPAmendment.html

The North Sand Hills workgroup received comments from several organizations and individuals regarding the Draft Master Plan. The workgroup met on March 21st to review the comments and are now incorporating those comments into the final plan.
Little Snake Field Office
The Little Snake Field Office has initiated the process to conduct a Resource Management Plan (RMP) for the entire Field Office. This plan will affect the counties of Moffat, Rio Blanco and Routt. The current preferred alternative reduces OHV travel by 98%, so please review the documents located at http://www.co.blm.gov/lsra/rmp/, and get you comments in on this plan no later than May 16, 2007.

The Quiet Use Coalition “Quite Commotion” summit in Glenwood
Southern Rockies Conservation Alliance is conducting a summit in Glenwood on the importance of soundscape, quite use recreation, and utilizing ways on how to protect and enhance the world class natural settings and recreation heritage contained within our National Forests and Bureau of Land Management lands of Colorado and Southern Wyoming and ensuring long term, sustainable access to our public lands. The summit will revolve around sound, and it is best that any OHV enthusiast that plans to attend get a background and the facts on sound before attending. I can be assistance to that, as well as Corey Corbett.

Dates for the summit are May 4th – 6th at the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs.
