CNC'ed Transmission

Alright, I've noticed there have been a couple threads lately about CNC'ed engines like the 5 axis machine doing the aluminum engine that was posted up a day or so ago.

Well, I'm in college, and apart of this club called Mini Baja. Its sponsored by SAE and its international, and they will actually be doing a piece the competition we will be at in June.

Well, we just go our transmission back today. It was CNC'ed out of solid blocks of aluminum at The Bose Corporation (Ya, the headphone Bose) and we were all acting like kids in a candy shop when we got the pieces today. They turned out friggen sweet, so pumped about it. Light as hell too.

Heres some pictures. I know not as exciting as a machine working, but still wicked cool.

A little blurry but you can see the machining streaks.

why didn't you guys make it yourself?
Well, we don't have a CNC machine, and two of our guys work there at Bose (one is on co-op, and the other has a job waiting for him after he graduates in april), so they didn't charge us anything. We did techinically build it all except for the actual machining, we took all measurements, modeled it in solid works, etc, and then gave all the dimension to Bose to do it. I just don't think that our mill could have done that nice precision work.
