I also went with a 160 degree t-stat because this summer in socal is really hot, and i'm glad i did.... I plan on switching to the 180 t-stat when fall comes so i can get the heater to work well.
Eric

I'm thinking you might be switching sooner once you see how bad your mileage is with the wrong thermostat. Running a lower temp thermostat doesn't help cooling, it just makes the engine run too cold and causes crappy mileage.

So my jeep is leaking a little. It is coming from where the lower house meets the radiator. It's not bad, but what should I do? I don't want any small animals walking by and drinking the coolant. How can i stop this leak?

Wow here's a suggestion. Fix the leak. Replace the hose use a new hose clamp, if the radiator is leaking send it back. I'm sure it has a warranty if you just did this mod.

The only time I switch from closed to open systems was for drag cars. We would tear down an engine at least once a week. An open system was a little less work to get up and running.
Bottle problems? Get a metal one.

Anyone have a source on a metal bottle to replace the plastic one? I'm leaning toward the conversion but I think a new aluminum bottle and a 3 core radiator might help my socal overheating in the summer!
