Chrysler 8.25 truss Q

looks like he did both. ground diff down enough to leave a little meat left for a good sealing surface then removed the cover and removed some material off the cover so the lip would be up out of the way and not get peeled back

Yeah, you got it. Sorry the explanation sucked. Didn't mean to derail the whole thread, just a idea if you're doing work on the axle.

I'm a big fan of tube. Front to Mach with the iron rock inner sleeve and c gussets

I cut a notch out in the sheet metal to put the block and vent in. Then for looks ran the brake lines on the others side

im diggin that.. how hard was it do weld in the sleeves? Could you do it with the knuckle still on there and with a MIG or would it be better to get them tig welded in?

Sleeve was E-Z just plug welds and welded the end, yes with the knuckles on and all the brakes off. The knuckes move so u can hit one side then the other. Used just a miller welder.
Yes I did the dimples, I don't know what kind. My buddy helped me ( he did all the welding I did all the work. But he owns DuneTech off road ( tube sliders, bumpers, racks, anything prerunner) so he has all the tools. All this was make from scrap he had laying around...

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one spending time and money on a 8.25. I see you didn't weld your tubes to the center. I need to gather up some money and get over to dune tech soon.

anyone running a pinion guard? trying to think of a way to build one...

Look closer, I notched the tube to sit closer to the axle. And yes it's welded to the the center.
Swing by and say hi, I'm there every Sunday all day. Most of the time Saturdays to.

Ive always said that in life that it is all about who you know! Must be nice to have a buddy who owns an offroad shop!

Yes and no. I put in a lot of work. If I had a part time job and worked as much as I work on stuff there I could pay for it out wright.

But It is nice to be hands on from the start to paint!

I can say "I built my rig" I have my hands in everything from gears and lockers to bumpers. Even mounted my own tires with 2 pray bars and a bag of air soft BBs.

Keep in mind this is my 2nd jeep and I have been elbows deep for 5 years in jeep stuff.

Not to blow my own horn, but I have very very little money in my jeep for what it is.

This is also my second cherokee, I bough my first for $300 had been sitting in a field for 2 years, went out and changed the oil and filled the tires and put it in four wheel drive and drove it home (absolute rust bucket). This jeep was an 88 XJ pioneer with 4.0L AW4 NP231, about 1.5 years later I bought an 86 xj wagoneer from a local guy that had the 2.8Lv6 and np 228 and 3 speed auto. The body is pristine and so is the floor pans esp. for an 86. So now the only thing left of the 86 is the interior and the interior electronics Everything else I took out of the 88 and transplanted it into the 86. It has been a 2 year project and I did it all by myself in my small garage, I learned a TON from NAXJA. I'd say I have about $4000 in it, its a Renix 4.0L with 96 block.
