I am starting to gather parts for the jeepspeed prerunner and I am looking at rear axles. I have a chryco 8.25 (94xj so 27 spline?) Iam wondering if this axle all trussed would be strong enough for my 33s and a locker in the desert or should I run an 8.8.

I really dont want a 9"($$$) and I want to find spare shafts anywhere so no xj44

Thanks guys

damn, around here 62"wms 9"ers are everywhere. might have to grab a few spares before I move. with that choice I would go with the 29 spline 8.25

i would say the 8.8 inch too because they are cheap and way stronger then the 8.25. i got my entire axle for $250 from a junked 2000 explorer with brakes and anything else that was attached to the rear end:shocked:

Its not really the price at this point its just one more thing I need to fab up. I would like the disk brakes but I want a very common axle and around here I think thats the 8.25 27sp or the non disk 8.8.

I really just dont know if with a truss and what Im doing that I cant just clean up that 8.25 to get it to run what I need...33s 4.10s to 4.77s locker or spool

if you plan on prerunning then your going to be putting a lot of stress on your axle. There are a lot more prerunners(Ford Rangers and F150s) sucessfully running the 8.8 for a reason. It is a stronger axle. It is bigger all around. 9 inch would be your best bet for strength but thats costly. Go with the 8.8, if your gonna truss it your already doing fab work so putting new perches on shouldn't be that big of an issue for such a big increase in strength
