Don't worry coastie, while I did not have duty, I will be studying and memorizing at least 3 hours a day until I get back from leave. Packing a 25lb bag of books and pubs kinda put a damper on the trip.
Christmas, and the Christmas season mean different things to different people. Those differences are sometimes belief orientated, and sometimes family orientated.
I'm not going in to a long explaination of the holiday, there are websites already full of information on both Christianity, and Pagan holidays that stretch back in time to before the birth of Christ.
The fact of the matter is that whatever your belief system is, there is something in the holiday for everyone. If you choose not to believe in Christ, fine, but don't be a scrooge about it; enjoy the holiday anyway.
Coastie, I'm sorry that you and many others around the world (and I'm not just talking about military, but everyone separated from family and friends this season) have to work. There are some jobs that don't stop because there is a Holiday Keep up the good work! Hoepfully you'll be able to catch up with them on the next holiday
I had to stay in wausau @ a motel on thursday because the place I had a service call at was closed, and needed everything fixed before open on xmas. had 3 more service calls on the way home in the morning, then had nothing to do while sitting @ home.
already did two service calls today. not complaining, saying that yes, I volunteered so that other people could enjoy their holiday.
as for the picture of the bible, you can't prove through solid facts that any information contained in it actually occured...you can choose to believe it did, but you cannot prove it.

it's communications issues for sure. and sorry, I'm just not making my issues with xmas about jesus christ...he has nothing to do with the holiday in my opinion.
