This isn't home ec class. If you want something done well, you have to pay for it. This isn't something mass produced for a common production convertible, this is a one off top designed around where you cut, weld and fabricate on the back of your heep.

and a crazy mad sewing girlfriend.

carefull...

This will cost you much more than a new XJ.

Find an upholstery shop...

They won't make you sit thru chick flicks or cuddle afterwards.

$1000 Cause thats crazy! I could get the material for about $200. I can get a snap rivet kit and some extra rivets for about $20 and a crazy mad sewing girlfriend. I mean it doesnt have to be 100% watertight. Hell it isn't watertight now, but about 90% would be just right. Hell my friend just got a new top for his 92 mustang for a little over $650. Anyways what have some of you paid for a custom top.

I love your reasoning.

It is gonna depend on the shop.

Mine was $800.

It is weather tight, does not flap, and came with a guarantee.

It is not as easy as you make it sound.....trust me...I have been there.

not to go off topic but I will. WTF is wrong with that cuddling leads to other desireable things, especially after watching a chick flick.

Ya' gotta' use a plasma cutter to call it 'advanced fab'....!

:D
So a plasma cutter wont get anything too hot? I would much rather do it with the plasme than with a sawzall. I would think that the middle of the roof would be a bit shakey for a sawzall.

Angle grinder, sheet metal circular saw, sawz all, and plazma cutter.

I like to mark it off and use the sawz all. Along the sides the sawz all works better than the other methods.

Just my findings...

For some "in work" pix, try my thread "I got bored today". it shows alot of the intial removal/cutting work, and some pix of the X-ploder hatch that I grafted on to be able to close the XJ up for bad waether, as my kids ride in this daily driver/trail runner.
