for thanksgiving we're making a road trip from home in dallas to my wife's brother in naperville (i think). WOO HOO road trip. the jeep's going to stay home though in favor of my wife's toyota.

our stay will be short because of the long drive, but i would love to hook up with some ers like on friday night.

beezil-- i thought about contacting you, but i had 0 time, and you dont know me from anybody. i do have an old gas tank skid of yours on my ride though remember that? ill be visiting again sometime soon, so ill definitely give you a shout beforehand.

dont get me wrong, i love atlanta. im so close to everything i love, and the city has some great things to see.. BUT city-wise, chicago beats it hands down. the city is very well planned, very clean, and i felt safe everywhere we went. im sure it has its down spots, as does any city, but i wouldnt mind living there.

atlanta is getting there though. new aquarium being built, the arts are getting better (i just wish the high museum would get serious!), and the diversity is growing too.

oh, and beez, i work in the mechanical contracting field (HVAC, industrial process piping, etc etc etc) and i nearly creamed my shorts when you mentioned the underground tour of buckingham fountain thats a MUST on my next trip! haha

You did not just say that... please tell me you did not compare the asshat of civilazation and culture to Chicago. In chicago we have theater, music, culture and anything you could want. Great food (on a stick even!) and entertainment.

Indionapolis has goat roping, country music and zero ethnic food.

I hope this is a joke because it is completely insane. If you have ever left that cesspool you would see whatyou are missing.

Only in chicago can you eat a good gyro, great Indian food, fresh sushi, a fantasic pizza, a giant borrito, killer chilli and good bar-b-que all within walkign distance from one another!

All of these things can be done in Indy too if you know where to look. You can find all that food, music, theater, and tons of entertainment. If you think Indy is all country music and zero ethnic food you haven't been here for a long time. I have lived and visited other cities (cesspools) and prefer Indy hands down. Again, I have never been to Chicago and I'm sure it's better because it is much larger and can offer more based on it's shear size, I just think Indy has just as much to offer just on a smaller scale. I'm sorry you feel that way about it. Maybe if you could spend some time here you could see what I'm talking about. But then if everyone wanted to start coming here it would change what I was talking about anyway (tourism).

I will be visiting Chicago soon (hopefully) and I am sure I will be wowed, I am just simply saying that for a smaller city Indy is a great place.

As far as goat roping, country music and zero ethnic food I think you must be confusing Indy with Louisville. Although if you look you can find the food there too.

Not to offend anyone who might live in Louisville, it's just not the city for me.

Smoky Bones restaurant...ribs and pork barbeque... would be about the closest thing just more of a chain than what you would find in Kentucky. also the rib fest in august (doesn't really count since it's not a restaurant more like a fair). Louisville definitely has it's highlights.

I agree with you about the brew pubs (and PT's and Trixies, and Deja Vu those are here too if that's what you're into ), I love Brownings, Cumberland Brewing, BBC and a little place just north of Loiusville (in New Albany) inside Richo's called New Albanian Brewing.

That's one more reason I love this area because it is relatively close to a lot of other larger cities and you can experience those places as well.

According to Mom, who grew up in Rogers Park, one of the ancestors owned a block in the Loop until Mrs. O'Leary's cow had it's way. Dad went to Senn High, I grew up in Elmhurst two blocks from Cook County. I like Chicago, it is clean compared to Philadelphia. I rode my bike in the country's first bicycle protest parade down State's street, in case you are wondering where the bike paths came from in Chicago.
I am not near as well traveled or urbane as many people but I have lived in Arizona, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Illinois, British Columbia for six weeks, and for one month on Manhattan Island in New York. I have traveled everywhere in the States except the North-Northeast and the South. I've been to Canada, Mexico, and Germany. I have reached 4 conclusions:
1. Munich is great except for all the Germans.
2. I can never live at less than 5000 feet of altitude.
3. If I was really wealthy, I would live on Manhattan Island, without a doubt the greatest city in the country.
4. If it keeps being warm and dry in Colorado Springs, I need to move further north, or higher in altitude.

We remodeled the kitchen, finished the oak floors that were under the carpet, it's nicer than it was, but it still needs as much work as the damn jeep. Old houses, old jeeps, and old owners are not a good combination.
You and Judy are always welcome. Maybe we can both make the Colorado trip this next summer?

Dirk, yeah I love Browning's, BBC and Cumberland. I even have a Cumberland Brews sticker on my Jeep. New Albanian BC is pretty good. I still prefer Cumberland and BBC.
