Currently in a 77ish K20, not sure if it's original. EDIT: it is a part time case. /EDIT It will be going in a 91ish S15 Jimmy. Along with the 10 bolt front and 12 bolt rear axles, 39.5s, and leaf packs with a couple leafs removed.

i cant see the picture cause im a work but it should be a NP205 tcase also the front axle should be a D44 but im suprised with it being a K20 its not the D60 as well as a 14 bolt in the rear. bot thats if its for sure a 77 after 77 is when they dropped the crap 10 bolts into things

We're not entirely sure of the exact year. It was a free truck and the driver's door is from something else.
Here's the rear axle:

That is an NP205... here is a pic of another one. Nice find for that alone... the twelve bolt would make a nice upgrade for the other truck, keep the outers on the 10 bolt and get a Dana 44 from an earlier truck. The 10 bolt makes a Dana 35 look good.

So, next question is, will this bolt up to his stock auto tranny?

It's behind the 4.3L Vortec. His is, I think, a 91. I found that the 97 runs the 4L60-E, that's basically a 700R4, correct? I'm assuming that his 91 runs the same tranny since the 700R4/4L60-E has been around since long before his Jimmy was made. We aren't sure of which transmission is in the fullsize everything's coming from, but we're kinda leaning towards swapping the transmission as well.

The engine is carb'd and will either be going into his 66 Chevy or possibly being converted to propane and going into the Jimmy.

EDIT:Further research has revealed that his Jimmy should have the 4L60.

EDIT2: Even further research shows that the 4L60 requires an adapter to mate to the NP205. Hm. Guess we better figure out if the full size's tranny will bolt to his 4.3, which means we need to figure out what the tranny is. Back to scouring the internet for me!

the 700r and 4l60 will both need a computer, the 4l60e is just a more electronic version of the 700, if your running a 4.3 VORTEC motor with all the fuel injection run the 4l60 because that is what comes behind that from the factory, as to that case, you will need to contact advanced adapters for a output shaft and adapter to get that case on the 4l60, also support that case because that is a very heavy case and will sometimes crack the housing on the light 4l60e, hope that is some help

If my memory serves correctly the TH350 and 700r4/4L60 use the same adaptors... Check Adv adapter's site. You do have to support that tcase well... It's a beast!

He ended up swapping the transmission with the transfer case, so he's got the TH350 and 205. He says he'll probably swap the engine too. Nicely built 350.

The 4.3 will allow anything to bolt up that the 350 does. It is basically a 350 with 2 cylinders lopped off.

Yeah, he just likes that V8. When he had the truck running, it was open at the headers (never left the yard like that, it was in mid build when he found that frame was disintegrating around the steering box), and it sounded MEAN! I mean too loud to drive for any sort of distance, but fun to make some noise with....:D

That is a 203 not a 205. The 205 has three bolts on the back to hold the middle gear set shaft in. It should have a 12 bolt rear with a 10 bolt front. http://wheelindixie.com/ is full of chevy nuts.

Ghost- you may be right... sorry Darkie, but I am looking straight on at the rear only, the 203 has quite a bit bigger cone section around the rear output shaft than the 205. The 205 in the pic can be used as a reference and Ghost is right... it has a small three bolt cover in the center.

700r4 4l60E same case different insides

Looking for opinions. Which would likely be a better setup?
A: 4.3 with 4L60 and NP231 driving a Ford Dana 50 monobeam front and Dana 60 rear (PO says it was from an F350, but from what I've read 350s should have the Dana 60 front, 250s would have D50 front) with 37s

OR

B: 350 to TH350 and NP205 driving a 12bolt rear and 10 bolt front with 37s.

This is all going to be bolted to a 91 GMC S15 Jimmy. Option A seems good as the 4L60 appears to be rated fairly to the TH350, except it has an overdrive. However, this will be pretty much a trail only vehicle. The 4.3 is healthy, and everything works well. However the 231 won't easily mate to the 10 bolt as the diff is offset to the wrong side. The Ford axles he just got will line up.
Option B, the t-case is stronger, the V8 is cooler but carbed, and the front axle is more iffy.

Thoughts?

If I understand you right that is the small Jimmy and that motor and tranny came in that year. If that is the case I'd run option a b4 b based on FI over carbed any day. the f350's in the 90's did have the D50 I believe. Maybe someone else can confirm this too.

Yup, you understand me correctly. :D It's the small Jimmy with the FI 4.3. The 4L60 and 231 are the stock units. He was contemplating running the V8 with a propane conversion, but so far this thing is being built with almost no budget.

The site I read about 350 vs 250 and D60 vs D50 did pertain more to the 2000+ trucks. His axles came from a 90's model.
