I am putting a '95 Camaro 3.4l into my 1987 XJ. I've the worn out 2.5l pulled and am in the process of lining up teh pieces to make sure everythin will fit ok.

I bought the clutch kit for a '87 XJ with a 2.8l and the AX-5, but the throw out bearing appears to be larger in diameter, and I am concerned the bearing will be "riding" on the pressure plate tines. Is this concern unfounded? should I get the clutch kit for a 2.5l/AX-5? What have others done?

TIA,

Mark

I'm not going to be much help, but I believe the 2.8L was never offered in '87. It was in '84 to '86, but I'm pretty sure the 4.0L inline 6 and 2.5L inline 4 were the only engines offered in '87. Also, I was under the impresssion that the camero motor would only be a viable swap into a 2.8L V-6 equipped cherokee. If you have a 4 cylinder, I think the bolt pattern and such matches the 4.0 L inline 6 cylinder. Jeff

Oops, you are right, '84-'86 with the 2.8l. But the AX-5 was offered with/on the 2.8l

The AX-5 bell housing bolt pattern matches the '95 Camro 3.4l.

I am using a flywheel from a Berretta/Cimmaron and that bolt pattern matches the flywheel. This flywheel's outside diameter is a little smaller than the original, but it looks like the starter will "grab" it. The Camaro Flywheel is too "wide" or thick.

Becareful with the flywheel. The 3.4 is internally balanced, so they flywheel needs to be neutral. I had my 2.8 flexplate from mine "un" balanced by a machine shop for $40.

Can't really help you much on the pilot, since I did an auto.
