Cheap regearing in Madison Wi?

I'll be needing my front axle regeared from 3.10 to 4.10 sometime this summer.

Anyone know of a place near Madison that's cheap and does decent work?

I am a poor man. Please help!

You could try J&L 4WD in Sun Prairie, but I doubt if they are really cheap.

Your best option may be to re-axle the rear with the gear ratio you want, then just do the front.

What size tire are you wanting to run?

I've got a manual with 33"x11" tires and a 5.5" lift. The axles and gearing are stock.
I do plan on doing an 8.8 swap in the back. I have the tools for it.
I'm just worried about the front.
I've been looking around for front axles that already have 4.10s in them, and they're around. But the salvage yards want like $700 for them. Also, I have a non-vac disc front. So that limits me even further in what I can use. I thought about getting a D44 out of an F150, but that conversion looked a little squirrely to me. Lots of room for error.

I suppose I could try and gear it myself. I've never done it before though. Luckily its not my daily driver so I could have it up on jack stands for months and not be worried about it. (Although my wife would have a fit)

Wait.... 33" tires with a 5spd?

Go 4.56s, and don't look back. 4.10s aren't deep enough.

Can't do 4.56, I can't get an 8.8 with 4.56 in it.

I can't afford to regear 2 axles. I figured I could get a different carrier out of a salvage yard or maybe even get an auto locker.

Yup, follow the last two posts. You will need a new carrier, and the gears. I can tell you what 4.10's with 33's feels like with a 2.5L 5spd, sluggish at hwy speed.

Sure, you could set it up in an evening or two with some reading and a bit of patience.

Edit: Then look for an axle from a 4 Cylinder XJ or YJ (not a TJ) manual, or a 84-86 V6 Automatic, then take out the carrier/gear and pinion.
Those should be 4:10 axles.

The word "cheap" and "regearing" should never be used in the same sentence. This is something you do NOT want done on the cheap. Save up and find someone that's reputable.
