Charlotte Area Meet and Greet

A care package is in route to Tim. There are a few items for a mini-raffle.

Awesome Ed thanks!!! I'm at my folks house tonight...wiped out from a 13 hour drive. I'll be back in Charlotte tomorrow night and will pick up the package from the office Tuesday after work.

I'll also contact the park this week to see about reserving the shelter for the 12th.

Got the swag today...thanks Mark and Ed!!!!

Got a couple of short sleeve shirts and a couple of long sleeve shirts, along with several stickers big and small. Hopefully if we get a good raffle going this will help offset the cost of the shelter.

Should be getting up with Jim tomorrow evening to go locate the shelter and discuss everything.

Glad you got the package.

I want to thank you guys for getting a plan into action and making this event happen.

Good job!

I should be able to bring drinks. Anything specific besides the dew?

Watching this closely. Still don't know if I can make it. I have a lot to do before the Crawl and things are not going as planned.

Met up with Jim today and scoped out a shelter. I'll try tomorrow on my lunch break to get it reserved. I don't see it on the listing to be reserved on the website, but i'll find out about that tomorrow. Didn't really get a chance to walk around on some of the trails...got caught in a bad storm as soon as we got there, so we were only able to drive around to a couple of parking lots and look.

As for drinks, I see that there's a permit that can be obtained if you want to bring alcohol, and it's an additional $50 on top of the $52 that the shelter is going to cost. Personally, I don't think it's worth it and am perfectly happy with water/soft drinks etc etc.

The plan is for this to start around 2:00 in the afternoon and continue until whenever people are tired and want to leave. I have to work until 2:00 and my work is roughly 30-35 minutes away from the park..so i'll be 30-45 minutes late depending on traffic. I've also got other plans scheduled for about an hour north later on that night, so I won't be staying much past the evening (looking at 3-4 hours maybe depending on how it goes).

In the past, all the meet and greets i've ever been to have been a come and hang out, mingle with people, and eat food type of atmosphere. Tonight we tossed around the idea of maybe having some kind of activities or something for this...maybe someone bring a football, frisbee..etc etc. What do you guys think?

For those of you who are on the fence about attending, how's it looking so far? Trying to get a better idea of who's coming and who's not. We've got one person that I know for sure is making a 2.5-3 hour trip from Raleigh to attend....i'd hate for him to drive all that way and this be a flop (plus we need to show all the TN guys that us NC guys know how to put on a good show!! :D )

Also Jim, put me down for Chips/Cookies.

I vote for a dry day. Pre-party Saturday if people wish :gee:

I planned on bringing a few items just in case. Even if we don't end up doing something, at least the option is there.

Sounds good Nick, thanks.

Overslept for work this morning and ended up running out the door and left my sheet of paper with phone numbers and notes sitting on my desk, so I wasn't able to reserve anything today. I'm off work tomorrow so I plan to do it in the morning first thing.

Ok guys, change of location on the shelter. When I called this morning everything at Freedom Park was booked, as well as the surrounding parks in that area. Found one at a park in North East Charlotte.

The location now is:

Reedy Creek Park - Shelter #9

The Address is:
2900 Rocky River Road
Charlotte, NC 28215

I was actually heading over towards there today anyways, so i'll locate shelter #9 and post back up with more specific directions for once inside the park.

Well i will be able to make it after all and Reedy Creek sounds good! anybody play disc golf? and would anybody like to learn? i can bring spare discs; its a great game and Reedy Creek has a great course.
also i think I'm still down to bring chairs...right? i should be able to bring somewhere around 6 to 8 or better.

I would expect the shelter to have picnic tables, that's something we can find out from Tim's scoping-out run today.

I'm down for disc golf. I'll bring my discs, I have some extras as well. I must warn, my game usually involves a lot of cursing at trees and bushes.

The shelter is right next to the entrance of the disc golf course...and its a pretty decent one too!

Sounds just like my game. Everybody else is on the course, and i'm fishing my disc out of the damn forest lol.

And here's a quick cell phone picture from earlier:

It's basically big enough for us to duck under incase a storm comes up. I figured we'd be out mingling in the parking lot around the Jeeps, playing disc golf, hanging out around the shelter for grub...etc etc. It's completely under trees and basically 100% shade, which will be good since the weather for next saturday looks to be upper 80's-low 90's and storms in the afternoon (typical summertime stuff).
