Chainsaw recommendations?

Im looking to buy a cheaper chainsaw. I know that like Stihl is the way to go, but Id rather not spend that sort of cash. Ive read good things about Husqvarna as well, and they are cheaper than Stihl. what keeps catching my eye, due to the prices, are the 18" poulan pros (149$ ) . Itll just be a camping only firewood and removing trees from the trail, etc.

so who owns a poulan pro and is it worth a damn?
 
My step dad bought a poulan just as a backup to his husq..it didn't hold up too well, the thing had all kind of problems. I've used his husq on a number of occasions and the thing keeps trucking.
 
Ive been leaning towards a refurb husk after more research as well.
 
My 18" Craftsman lasted 16 years before the fuel lines needed replacing.. and somehow i screwed that up. I bought another one the morning i needed to cut two cords for $160 and a few year warranty.

I dont see the need for a Stihl unless your using it often..
 
itll only be for cutting firewood and removing the occasional tree off the trail. It wont get used a lot. like on a handful of camping trips a year most likely. Id rather spend 160$ than 500$ for that reason.
 
Stihl 180c Mini boss.. 16" blade.. Brand new $175ish bucks.

My local Hardware store (Parkrose hardware to be exact) It was right about $175-180.. iirc. Bought a 6 pack of Stihl brand Mix oil and got an additional year warranty (2 year total) Even with the oil it still came in at under $200
 
I like my Stihls. I got one from Home Depot for under $200 but that was a long while ago. Echo's are good weed eaters and blowers so they could be good chainsaws too.
 
Im working on getting a couple used ones, an echo, a husqvarna, and a poulan pro with case. Paying about the same for all 3 as one would pay for a brand new poulan pro, so its not bad at all....
 
My 18" Poulan is old and used, but runs like new. The Walbro carb is easy to tune, and It will sit and idle while i grab a new log to saw... Good power, and spare chains are cheap-n-easy to find. Run 100 Low Lead Av-Gas for fuel, and it will never need new fuel lines...

I ended up getting a used poulan with case for dirt cheap. threw a new chain on it too. I threw some stabilizer and sea foam in the gas as well. so far it runs good, havent used it yet.

Where do I get low lead AV gas from?
 
I read somewhere that AV gas is bad for the motors in these things? Are you sure its good?
 
After seeing this thread I was considering getting one myself on my next good paycheck since a friend may need help clearing a path to his claim or camping duties. Different friends dad just gave me a husqvarna for free.
 
dude id run the free husqvarna in a heart beat. My cheap 60$ poulan pro 18" worked pretty good. hard to start some times, but sea foam seemed to help that part. all in all it cut alot of fire wood. I just need to bring extra chains next time.
