I went to a magnetic mount on the roof and I wrap the cable around the factory roof bars so when, not if ,I rip it off, it dangles on the roof without harm. If you never leave the street the side would be OK but the best ground plane is on the top center of the roof anyway. The ground plane is electrically 50% of your antenna. Ground plane is as important as the antenna itself.OT said:Nothing should be mounted to the side of a wheeled vehicle.
You can always be careful, but there's always that one time you can't help it.
It's all downhill after that..........

Any ideas?

Maybe a piece of small foam pipe insulation?
