It is possible to have one old type and one new type unit hub. Mismatched hub and rotor type will result in interference between the rotor and the hub and the wheel will be locked up.
No difference in hub durability, and I always buy new rotors for a brake job.
In the olden days, rotors had enough thickness to be resurfaced, but to save weight/cost they are usually made closer to the minimum specification and often don't measure after resurfacing.
