Can somebody approve my HID plans on 98XJ

Hey guys, I've been driving a lexus around for the past couple of days and when I got back in my Jeep it really made me realize how much my headlights SUCK haha. I was thinking of maybe doing an HID conversion kit so that I can have some better visibility at night. I dont want to upgrade to silverstars because I see them as a waste of money in the long run. My top lights are awesome but I cant turn them on around town, etc.

Now I know a little bit about HID's and I noticed all the HID setups I've seen have projector headlights so I assumed I needed those. And I remember reading somewhere that 6000k is the color intensity of choice when it comes to HID's. I agree and so I found an HID 6000k conversion kit and a projector headlight kit with H4 fittings (housing replaces the H6054 sealed beam that my xj has)

I noticed DashZRacing had all of what I needed in one place:

Projector Headlamp assemblies-Chrome
and:
6000k H4 HID Conversion kit

I really am not looking at spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on this and the two links above combined will get me a nice HID kit for under $200... or so I think. Any feedback?

When I purchased my 98 XJ 12 years ago... the first thing I noticed was that the low beams didnot light the road well... and the high beams were not much better...
Part of this is caused by the 16 ga wiring and the 11.3V going the the stock headlights.
Built a headlight harness using 10g and 14ga wire, (2) 30A relays and (2) 25A fuses.
Now the headlights receive 13.8V plus; which means 2.5V more to each headlight.

Almost 10 years ago I upgraded to Hella headlight housings.

My first set of PIAA H4 55/100W bulbs burned out after 8 years of use... and I upgraded to Hella H4 Xenon 80/100W bulbs.

Projectors and HIDs work nicely on my '06 Acura RSX Type S....

Talk to tcm glx he sells HID kits he'll point you in the right direction. Personally I'd go with a 5000k kit, 6000 is too blue for my taste.

Do not waste your money on those "projector" headlights that aren't projectors. Those are the same as all the other ebay lights, just crappy lights that you will put it and they will suck, and will be even worse if you put HID's in there.

I very well may go 5000, I'll know by thursday night whether I like 6000 or not once I install them in my friend's wk, then I can decide what'll work best for me in my jeep.

So whats the best way for me to get in contact with this guy? I'd like to talk to him a bit, get an estimate or so, and hopefully buy some lights!

I've done some research over the past hour or so and thats what the general consensus is. I've been reading about this all night and people are advising autopal lights, I presume those will work well?

By the way everyone, excuse my naive appearence on this subject, but dont worry Im not much of a forum beginner. Ive got 1200 or so posts over on Jeepforum and all we talk about over there is lifting XJs. I like the variety over here haha

Well, I'm not totally sure the best way to respond to that...

I did read that 7 page long thread, and yes I got to see that picture of your $850 headlights that I know I can never afford, which also sparked my interest in your Jeep and led me to find your post in the custom sub setup which had me drooling over your jeep.

but nevertheless, this forum helped me from making a mistake and thats what should matter the most, I'm sorry I had to bring up the HID topic again. you don't have to follow this thread if you dont want to, but the good news is its almost over.

For everyone else:
As of now I'm getting the autopal H6054 H4 Euro conversion kit,

And somebody over on Jeepforum told me to get some bi-xenon kits and a simple google search gave me this:
http://www.amazon.com/XenTec-Conversion-BI-XENON-6000K-Ultra/dp/B0012SB6PC

I figured that since its Xentec (the same brand I'll get from bajahid.com and tcm glx) I shouldn't be worried about the brand.

And in the end.. I end up spending less than I would have if I got the Cheapo solution from DashZ, I now have a legitimate housing for the HIDs, a name brand HID kit, and both low and high beams. I think in the end this was a big success

Alright, that wasn't too painful, eh?

tcm_glx is at www.bajahid.com
Send him an e-mail. He will respond quickly and you can ask as many questions as you want. I got mine from him, just haven't installed the HID bulbs yet while I decide where I want the ballasts. Running Silverstars for now.

that baja hid kit looks pretty good and whever says that it is wiring that makes our lights dim is wrong. I do electronics on helicopters and they run on a 28 VDC and 115VAC systems and they use mostly 18-20G wire for power. i would say if you don't have the housings get them off ebay or something like that and also i found a HID kit on ebay for 50 dollars...

higher voltage smaller wire

Sorry bud but if we are only pulling 11.5 volts to the headlights on stock wiring and 13.x on upgraded wiring, that will / does make a BIG difference in light output. What types of things are you powering with the skinny wire?
And yes, I suspect that 28VDC / 115VAC systems are going to have different characteristics than a 12VDC headlight.

Glad I saw this thread. I replaced my sealed beams with silverstar sealed beams a year ago, were great until recently. Thinking about upgrading to the bajahid.com lights. Anyone have feedback on the install, pictures, etc. From the looks of the website it looks like it will cost about $250? New H4 housings, hi-low HID w/ ballasts..anything else?

Helicopters need to be light higher voltage smaller wire less weight. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wc...0001/-1/10001/Electrical-Systems-24-Volts.htm

Just wanted to update... emailed Tony yesterday and he was extremely fast to respond and was very helpfull with my questions. Will certainly be using bajahid when I upgrade to HIDs
