My ex girlfriend was smoker, and now my ashtray is all gross. It holds my cell phone perfectly so I need to clean it out. Can I just throw it in the dishwasher or will it melt? I assume it will be fine if the hot ash doesn't melt it. Anyone tried it? 97+ BTW.

I'd go top shelf if you put it in the dishwasher (my 97 is black painted metal, didn't know they had plastic)

hot water, some soap, and a small brush at the sink would be easier though

I say through it in and see what happens, what harm could it do?.......... Be sure to take lots of pics!!

try throwing it in the toilet with generous amounts of bleach and ammonia and flush profusely.

Hopefully you noticed that this is sarcastic.

It's good to see da yoopers haven't gone soft!

Meanwhile, just lick it out like she told you. If you had done that in the first place, she may not be your ex.

She was a compulsive lier, she lives off the state, she got super-fat, she never finished high school like she promised, and shes just an all around head-case. Shes old news now, but my Jeep still stinks!

I already wiped the thing out, its mostly clean but theres some resin/gunk in the bottom. I'm throwin it in the dishwasher, if theres some catistrophic failure, then I'll just have a bigger hole to drop my phone in. Glad you guys got a laugh out of a simple question. And yes, this is OEM Tech.

Dishwashers are great for cleaning just about anything including cylinder heads, the larger carburetor parts, timing case covers or the neighborhood cat that you don't like(just kidding on the last one)
The biggest problem is convincing your significant other that you will do no harm to the dishwasher.

Sure - that's what I do to mine every three months or so. Top rack only.

As far as the seats go, I'd get used to riding with the windows down for a while, and vacuum the seats off. Later, you can take a stuff Nylon brush and brush baking soda into them, let it sit for a half-hour or so, and vacuum them off. As long as it isn't too horrible, that should work well.

Ozium is good stuff for that too; the local Pep Boys carries it around here, so it may not be too difficult to find.

Heh, I just realised what category it's under at that link...

HO Ashtrays can be washed in a dishwasher, but base model ashtrays are hand wash only.

Serously, we've all had our fun, like mentioned, something the size of an ashtray should take a whole 1 minute to scrub clean by hand, why even consider a dishwasher?

If the smell and ash is stubborn, the dishwasher is less likely to remove it than some good elbow grease. Use some simple green.

I hate ciggarette smoke and hate touching a nasty ashtray but if smoking bothered you that bad why the hell did you let her smoke in your jeep to begin with?????
