My 1/98 XJ Sport was recently swamped with fresh water. I dried it out and drove it for another 3,000km with nothing unusual happening.
I didn't use it for a month after I got back, until a week ago when I drove about 100km. Tried to restart and it initially would turn over, but not start. Voltmeter & Fuel gauge were not working. Replaced CKP and still no start & volts & fuel not working. Scangauge II would still not communicate with ECU.
Tried another ECU and gauges all work, and codes P1694, 0700, 1686 & 0000 are present. Not too worried about gearbox codes for now, but would like to know if there is a simple bypass for the smart key module as the nearest dealer is 50km from here. Even a permanent bypass would be an idea as this is essentially a trail only rig.
BTW, I am in Australia, so the laws are probably a bit different.
