ok, found a decent looking xj for 400 bucks. It has a little rust, some things are a little ruff, it has the auto and 4litre. What should i look for mechancally if any? Also i would like to clear some 33's on about 3.5 inch lift, cause i dont care about cutting any. Will the 35 hold the 33's ok? Any advice would be good, i am gonna mainly tralior the rig, maybe a little on road driving, but not much, i just need some good opinions guys, thanks

If it is an inline motor, it is a 2.5L, if it is a V motor, it is the 2.8L.

Here's a good trail set up - I've lifted a '85 Wagon and an '88 Laredo with this exaxt same combo in the last 4 months.
Skyjacker 3" combined with 2" Daystar Spacers up front and a 2" steel block in the rear. It gives you approx. 5" of lift and clears 32x9.50 TSLs or 34x10.50s (a small 34, 33.6" tall actually) with trimming and sits perfectly level. With the Skyjacker kit, you get coils/LCAs/add-a-leafs and the tracbar relocation bracket. IMPORTANT: You must get 5" lift shocks! Ask for them, they'll send them instead of the 3" - no price diff. I weld a bead across the front of the tracbar bracket to keep it from getting loose. You'll need longer YJ front brake lines. If the '86 has the GKN "ball & cage" front driveshaft, you'll need to get a new 32 spline front yoke and a different "double cardan" CV style driveshaft for sure (27" running length from a Full Size Wagoneer). If you plan on using the stock rims go with the 32x9.50s for sure. I have them, they work great. The 34 LTBs on stock wheels will be close to rubbing your rear leafs. PM me if you get that sucker, my '85 Wagoneer is a 2.5L and I know alot about these early XJs. I can help you out with any questions.

its an 87 messed up on the vin, do you have a pic of the jeep you have. I am looking at going as high as i can go without having to do the sye, i am thinking 4.5 max height, what do you guys think?

And if it's an inline 6, either it isn't an '86, or it isn't the original engine.

gonna change yer user-name?? :)

i would think a 3 inch lift and a lot of trimming you could fit 33's, anyone have any pics of a setup like this, i am sure its possible

Dana 30 front, probably without disconnect. For the rear, a LOT of '87 Wagoneers had Dana 44s.

whats a good cheap lift to run, should i do coil overs? thanks for any help im new to all the jeep things, so anything and everything you would like to give advice on please feel free, it is greatly appreciated!
