Buyers help

Mark said red is getting 18.79 and 18.85 mpg in the first two tanks of gas.

My XJ when it was stock got 18-20 mpg and that was using GPS for mileage.

The red one did.... 21mpg highway ronce I swapped to an ntk o2 sensor

It got 16-17mpg religiously when I drove it. But it was also lifted on 31"s then.

I went back and read some stuff Georgia Mike has been going through with his ZJ's transmission issues. I need to keep my eyes peeled for a 1993 to 1995 model with the 6 cylinder and AW4 auto. I think that would be pretty safe.

I'm going to try and go look at a few this weekend and see what I can find. The ones I'm finding are all 1996 to 1998 models.

I just want an Overland WJ with a mild lift and 31's to DD. They're very difficult to find for under 10k and that's crazy.

I was very lucky when I bought mine it was listed on craigslist for over 2 months, price wasn't to bad $6500 but mileage was high almost 200k. When I called he told me I was only the second caller that had called in that time. He was the second owner and had only owned it for less than a year had all records with from 1st owner a local.

He brought it to my house to look at and it was impressive spotless inside and out. I ended up buying right then as he had title in hand for $5100 cash.

My father in law has a 4.7 Non-HO WJ (Bone stock) and claims 18mpg.

My 4.7HO's mileage averages 17.1 and highway about 19.2 and it has the 3.73 stock gear.

Ed, only early 93's had the AW-4 behind the 4.0L.

I should have bought a ZJ years ago.. i find it much more comfortable than my XJ, and hands down over our WJ as well.

I have a preference for the later model ZJ's.. 96+ interiors. At some point i'd love to find a good running V8 donor rig.

The wife had a 93 Limited with 5.2L, the fuel mileage wasnt too much lower than the 4.0 if i kept my foot out of it.

Alot of the electrical issues can be fixed with a soldering gun and searching the net for write-ups.

I've been reading up on your ZJ build over in the NAC forum.

I've read that only the 1993's had the AW4 but Mark and I pulled a NP231 t-case from a 1995 with the AW4. We checked to be sure and it looked all original and stock.

I like the 1993 to 1995 nose but the 1996 to 1998 interiors do look better.

What is the go-to site for Grand Cherokees, more stock that modded? I've been to NACGA.com and Mallcrawlin.

They are hard to find. You are right.

Don't discount this these - actually have 2 5.9s for sale in Nashville: http://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/4632541867.html

Don't give away my ZJ's. The white one is nice and really what I would buy but it's a little out of my budget (at least until I sell my car). There are two others I'm looking at pretty hard too.

Best friend has a DD 95 with the 231, it has a 42re. 95 being OBDI it's possible someone used a 93 donor rig to swap an AW-4 in.. it def wasnt from the factory.

94-95 did have a 5 speed AX-15 option however.

Best ZJ forum i'v found for DD and mod tech is JeepForum believe it or not..

Ok, I've been to JeepForum and it seems like a lot more basic info like I need at this point.

I really need to stick to a 6 cylinder for simplicity and fuel saving if I want to stick with a ZJ.

Simplicity, yes. Fuel saving, probably not. Grand Cherokee's are heavy...I doubt you'd see much difference at all in MPG's on a V8 over the 4.0.

Your 4.0 gets better than 18mpg? I haven't owned an auto XJ that did better than that.

Mine got 20 easily back in the day...even with the A/C on. Then one day somebody flipped a switch and it tanked to 14-ish. OEM o2 sensors and the lot still made no difference. Then I started doing stuff to it and stopped caring too much about its economy.

I think the Celebrity is on it's last leg. Thermostat is sticking now, car dies while idling and surges, oil is leaking from under the intake manifold, and needs a new exhaust. It's just not worth fixing. Bad news is the brakes are new along with the tires.

I found a Grand I want but it will need a little work first.

I would tend to say yes based on the hood vents. Those were specific to the 5.9 from what U have been told.

Also has Niner wheels and the lower profile roofrack. Cant see if the rocker covers are Niner specific but i'm betting this is a 5.9L.

I saw the wheels and vents and figured it probably was. That grill is UGGG-LLLY.

I think I have it arranged to look at a 1996 Grand this weekend. We will see how it goes.
