Buyers help

Dirk,

What is your impression regarding the amount of room of the Grand vs. the XJ? Since you have both, you'd know better than anyone if the Grand has any more room than an XJ.

Mark is telling me stick to an XJ as we know them but I can't see the GC being that much different/harder to work on.

I have found a Renix that needs a transfercase for less than $800. I have a NP242 in the shop with 21 splines......fulltime FWD for winter sounds pretty good.

The ZJ is infinitely more comfortable and has considerably more room than the XJ. For comfort and daily use, it isn't a contest - ZJ all the way. I have more headroom in the ZJ by several inches (I can wear a hat in the ZJ, not in the XJ). The seats are wider also.

Regarding the difference between working on a ZJ and an XJ, it is negligible. Of course suspension wise, the ZJ is coil spring 4 corners. Don't let a concern of maintaining a ZJ stop you from considering it. If you can fix an XJ you can fix a ZJ.

The bad thing about the red Jeep is, I LIKE it!!

Not to hijack the thread but what is the little toggle switch under the dash for, drivers side?

Part of the remote start, Part of the neutral circuit. Just tuck it away and forget its there :D I'll bring the manual for it when I come get the headliner and wheels. Glad you like it, it's a sweet little jeep

Yeah Doug, that is the problem.......Mark likes it.

Not the same year your looking at but my 2004 GC "Overland" edition with 214,000 has been an excellent vehicle to drive with no real issues since I've owned I the last 3 yrs. Not a single electrical issue at all and no comparison to my XJ in ride/comfort/mileage/options "everything offered that year from Chy". It is my DD and my wife now drives our Lincoln Town Car most of the time it has the same options almost except no Nav in it so she's still happy..

As far as off road I have used it a little and on road in quite deep snow, both differentials came with the locked options so does quite well up to a clearance issue with stock 17" tires go.

and the XJ

Handlebars had an Overland WJ when we went to Moab and it was an awesome WJ. He had a mild lift, slightly oversize tires and was cruising the trails in comfort. I'd be interested in a WJ but they are a little out of my price range unfortunately.

This. I preferred my ZJ over my XJ honestly. :gag:

My vehicular ADD had been flaring up recently, I kinda want another 5.2 ZJ.

Not only do I have the XJ and the '96 ZJ, but I also have a 2004 WJ Laredo. Lots of issues with the electrical system. The mileage is only averaging 1 mpg better than my lifted XJ on lower gears and 2 mpg less than my ZJ. We are at 176000 miles on the WJ.

I prefer driving my ZJ over both the XJ and WJ. The ergonomics in the ZJ is better than the other 2 without contest.

What was the difference in gas mileage between the 5.2L V8 and the 4.0L inline 6?

Always have liked the dubs. Especially a Limited or Overland with the 4.7 HO in it. Buddy of mine has a 02 Limited with the 4.7 HO and he's driven the wheels off of it. Still going! Drives and rides very nice!

5.9 ZJ..../thread :D

Funny you should ask, because I also had a 5.2 ZJ - a 1994. I never really kept a mileage record, but it was considerably thirstier than the 4.0...but it was really fast.

My father in law has a 4.7 Non-HO WJ (Bone stock) and claims 18mpg.

My wifes '02 Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 had the 4.7L and in mixed driving to work for a week I got 18 mpg. That was a pretty heavy truck too.

I really need to stick to a 6 cylinder for simplicity and fuel saving if I want to stick with a ZJ.
