Butt-hurt over Pull-N-Save

This is a what do you guys think/buyer beware thread, so bear with me... I'll just start by saying I've been doing biz with these guys for about 10 years and am/was on a first name basis with the management there. This weekend I bought a radiator from them for another project I'm working on. I grabbed a radiator I had laying around and brought it with me use as a core. So I buy the radiator from them and gave them my core.(radiator; $39.99 + 10.00 core) Well, yesterday I decided that the radiator was not going to work and I wanted to get another or my money back. The one I scoped out earlier had went off to the crusher so I was SOL and planning on making a trip up Anderson's. Here's what chaps my ass, they were cool with giving me my $39.99 back, but not my core. They said they didn't have it anymore. So I said I was cool with any core back, wrecked, full of holes, anything to reuse as a core. They told me they already paid me $10 for my core(also read didn't charge me an extra $10) when I bought the radiator, and basically to get bent. So in a nut shell, I walked in with $39.99 and a core, and left with $39.99.(make sense?) I guess they are just too stupid see my point and figured I was trying to pull a fast one on the despite past dealings. For what it's worth this discussion was had with higher up the food chain than one of the register jockies. Just putting it out there, since they are under new ownership the quality of service/pricing is really beginning to suck. Yeah, it's only $10, but I had to shell out $18 for a core to Andersen's for a grand savings of $38 since I had no other cores... Bastards!

Yeah, that does seem a but stupid of them to argue over a core. Ya can't tell me they didn't have a stack of 'em laying around in the closed yard, and certainly shoulda let you go get a mangled one from the open yard..... wow.

I think that sucks.

BTDT with a carb core years ago. I don't take the core for exchange any longer, I may need it for comaparison as well. As it is, I usually find some mangled debris on the road-side that qualifies for a core.

Here's another tip: When I hit the checkout with an assembly and the checker looks marker-happy, I say "Mark it good, I'll be returning what I don't want!" It's usually a pretty short receipt when I walk out.

With that said, Jack and Phil have always treated me top-notch. I have had a few learning experiences with the hired help. I'm not going to whine my way to PITA status over pennies when any other day I feel like a bandit. I've had too many good experiences to recount in one post.

Ah, so have I in the past and my discussion was with the more reasonable of the two guys you mentioned. I don't even bother with the hired help...

True.

I once got an entire headliner out of a '98 XJ - WITH speakers and lights...
for $20.

I would of have paid $100 for it - it was in perfect condition.

I thought about this thread today. At the sign-in, I had my digital camera sitting with the nitrile golves and PB-Blaster.

This kid looks up at me and smiles; "I'm sorry, cameras aren't allowed in the yard". This kid is smiling, so I'm thinking he's just yanking my chain: "What?!?!? Yer shittin me!" His smile gets bigger, he offers to keep it behind the counter for the second time. I figure he is one of those smilin' dudes; acts like I may get hurt feelers if I hear the word no. I ask why, he says "insurance regulations".

Whatever! I put the camera in the car...this time. He had no problem with the PB-Blaster...this time. I just thought it was screwy...this time. The guy standing next to me had a big smile and a fancy cell phone...in plain sight. It was a pretty good day today.

I went to pick and pull for a water pump pully yesterday, it was like $12.60. I couldn't believe that.....it's just the pully for the water pump, no bearings......cuz the bearings are in the water pump, etc.

But I was desperate. Dealership closed on Sunday and the parts stores don't sell it.

So basically I paid almost $13 for a 14 year old pully. A new idler pully was less I think......or around the same.

Suprised me too.

Holy ressurected threads Batman!!!

I was told that corporate decided to do away with the "Weekend Special." Today is the last day.

I've been wanting to check out some of the other yards around town. I guess this is good incentive.

Well since you restarted this thread again, I'll say that the local Pick-And-Pull are some..nevermind.

They want $18.00 each for rotors on HALF PRICE WEDNESDAY!

COME ON!

It's the price of scrap. It tanked! Since I moved up north and "the buy out" I haven't had too much desire to go to P&S. Yards like this operate on profit from scrap. They buy a car for $150 and it's worth $300 crushed. They set it in a yard and keep the "component" prices low and it's all gravy! Good plan. But if the scrap price falls too low, they sit on it too long, then they are kinda screwed. If the profit margin goes, so does "deals". I have it from a good source the Andersen's in Greeley almost went under because of this. A&S(a shitty yard down the road) did because of the scrap price drop. They priced everything way too high in hopes to make $$$ off suckers, but with Andersen's so close it was kinda bad. The price of steel is down, parts up. Can't do much about that... :)

Prices went up even while scrap was bringing a good price. First the price list was gone from the web site, then I noticed different shirts...and higher prices.

The employee who told me about the weekend special was pretty upset about it; more so than I. I hope he stays, I like talking to him.
