Busy day today - Truggy mods for Moab almost done.

Well, more progress in spite of some wasted time - tried to pull a radiator from one of my parts XJ's - the Truggy's is weeping a little - wanted a spare just in case. When I removed the upper hose the fitting crushed (fawkin' plastic tanks! :flamemad: ).

Fitting tube is time consuming! Needed to fix the front part of the exo Led cut away for clearance of the full width front and 37's.

Before:

I had to cut the bent tube away and start over. Didn't have a bender so I had to angle/notch - but it matches the other tube behind the tire so it worked out fine. I had to relocate the support tube for the bumper ends too.

Red Comet Extinguishers hooked me up by getting my CO2 tank inspected and filled today - they put it ahead of some others so I wouldn't have to wait until Tuesday.....

Still to do:
-Paint the new tubes/welds
-Install the Riddler diff cover on the 44 (just like a Crane)
-Paint front axle
-Install CB/antenna
-Install stereo/speakers (just gotta have tunes.....)
-Install center console (custom one with cup holders!)
-Install the other storage box.
-Install new u-joints in spare front shafts and find a place to carry 'em.
-Fix hi-lift mounting bolts (stripped and need relocated)
-Collect all other spare parts and figure out how/where to carry 'em.
-Replace smashed trailer tail lights (don't ask..........)
-Get the oil changed in the Dodge and check the brakes
-Check bearings on the trailer hubs
-And then, and then, and then........ :D

-Replace chiropractor style hi lift jack with a straight version.......

Seal those open tube ends with these A&A Ornamental end caps :greensmok

nah nah JohnJohn you loose........

So I inspired you huh? I know you have a plasma cutter there Yella cut four round plates, drill four holes, buy two bolts and two matching nuts weld them all up and find a guy with really skinny hands to help you start the bolt through the spring :D

............but it would cost him more to buy the strap than to go to the hardware store and use some scrap steel.....................we could go on like this forever huh? :greensmok

:cheers::D

been there done that. if its big enough to trap the spring up top it will tend to catch on the coils as they pull back at full droop and on full stuff. the axle done't move strait up and down. so J.J. wins

..here ya, seen it done that way and it sounds like a playing card in a bicycle spoke ...but I was thinking of something little bit different and guess didn't describe my idea properly. Like these nice Mounting brackets for coils from bluetorchfab where it bolts the top side nice and secure with a big washer .......no sliding of the coil on it as it is securely mounted top & bottom.

..For you JohnJohn........... :moon::D

looking good troy, you going to try and make November to Remember? I can't wait to wheel with that thing again, its fun to watch and get ideas off of.

Today, I got the stereo/speakers installed, the CB/antenna installed, put a cheezy homemade center console in to give a little more storage for gloves, winch controller, etc. I relocated the hi-lift across the bed between the spare tire and the storage box - didn't really like having it up on the cage tubes - it rattled like a sumbitch. Mounted the other smaller storage box for my tree saver, snatch block, strap and fire extinguisher (things to get to quickly).

CB and console:

2nd storage box:

After all that, I started to address the front axle lack-of-a-breather problem....... and that's where things got interesting.

The goo in the diff - I dunno what the hell Led put that thing through but it was the consistency of cake batter and a hue of concrete gray. I used 2 cans of carb cleaner to get it cleaned out:

The TNT truss covers the factory breather hole..... Thought: Do I plug it? Or cut into the truss and use it? Thought about drilling into the diff behind and above the ring gear to relocate a breather..... but without jacking the damn thing up high enough to drop the axle so I could get a drill in there.... I decided to modify the truss and use the orig. hole:

Made the cut, went to test fit the fitting.... the threads were all fawked up.........

Here it is, with the new Riddler diff cover and c-notched truss. Gotta get a different fitting and some hose in the morning:

It's not looking good for me to get outta town Monday...... still have too much to do..... :flamemad:

WHAT is that stuff?

That's what 90W becomes when saturated with water I guess...... :dunno:

Whatever else got in there is beyond me. It stunk to high-hell and was very resistant to the brake clean and carb cleaner I used to clean it out.

Check your breather lines/connections boys...... :D

(I can only wonder what the rear diff lube looks like - that breather wasn't installed either.......)

Hmmm, reminds me of the oil my pops used to put in the ol' outboard's gear box...or was that the color when it came out????

that was the color when it came out

I've seen worse though, anyone else ever removed a diff cover to find rotten and spoiled meat? Yeah, I don't know the entire story as it was a customers vehicle but I can only guess it was a last minute trail fix that was forgotten about. Apparently it worked though as it got the Jeep (CJ7 if I remember) back down the trail and to our shop.

Lesson learned? Don't haul gear oil and silicone with you up the trail, all you need is a pound of ground beef. :D
