So i have heard that if you call Caltrans and tell them you were following one of their truck and a rock kicked up and broke your windshield they will fix it for free. Has anyone ever done this before?

wont work...it used to be like that though. they will go through your insurance and its a drama filled deal just to save 120?

Yeah, you can probably commit insurance fraud.

Is it a good idea? Is it honest? no.

Okay I work at a auto glass shop. Its not a big deal to make an insurance claim. the question however is do you have full coverage #1 secondly whats your deductible amount cuz if its over the cost of a windshield then why bother. the next matter will they pay for your windshield vary rarely. Once in a great while will they pay

i was just wondering because a rock did kick up and chipped my girlfriends windshield the other day. i know her insurance will pay to get the chip fixed but she wants a new windshield. thats why i was wondering.

I love how people automatically assume fraud.

Well was it from a caltrans truck? If it wasn't, then yes... it is fraud.

Thats depends if its it the line of vision they are suppose to replace it. It can be a liability your not suppose to have your view obstructed in any way period. Whatever you do replace the glass if its cracked. #1 its a restrain system it will hold you in the car if your seat belt fails. #2 God forbid if you roll like Shark Mark or others on here it will help to keep your roof from crushing in on you it still will but a broken windshield has less strength. #3 you will get cited for a broken windshield. If you have any more questions call 650-571-8909 Atlas Auto Glass my name is Jason

And whatever you do have a shop that knows what the hell they are doing install your new F/W cheaper is not always better when it comes to something that saves you life.

No problem. I will be out of town for 10 days but if you have any other questions feel free to call me my cell phone coverage will be limited 971-242-9800

Debris from the road is classified as a road hazard. Doesn't matter who's vehicle "kicked it up."

If it was a part of the load that was falling off of the truck (dump gate leaking rocks or cinder), then it would be covered.

The State of California will also pay damages caused by road conditions (but not potholes) created or caused by them or their subcontractors. An example: A CALTRANS paving contractor leaves a 4" drop transition where payment surfaces have been ground down. A Porsche hits this dip, and the front airdam/spoiler hits the pavement, breaking the spoiler & fog lights. This would be a covered event.

Rocks & broken windshields are just one of the expenses of being a car owner.

Check out a windshield overlay to prevent chips & breaks. There are a few available.
