Broken T-Case

Has anyone seen a NP231 broken in half?? If so what causes this? Could it also tear up the output shast of the AW4?

not only lack of lube. frozen/welded planetaries or broken chain can do it too.

Forgetting to disengage 4WD on the highway?

Compressing a too-long front driveshaft into the case will do that too...

guess i was lucky then. Ive had a noise since august. and havent been abel to find it... yesterday I decided to check the fluid in my tcase and well. there wasent any and if there was there wasent much. so i dumped some in and drove it home... shot the fluid out evverrryywhere... rear seal went question is.. how long have i been driving with no fluid...? dont know yet the extent of any dammages inside but wheeled it fine last sunday.. shifted fine worked fine. wasent makeing the noise ive been hearing. (nor did that sound sound like any kind of lack of lube sound).
