It started with a broken transmission crossmember bolt.
I was trying to remove it with bolt extractor and now the extractor broke inside and is stuck.

I tried drilling it but this pos is freaking tough....my drill didn't even cut.

Pls help, my transmission is held by only 3 bolts now :help:

The bolt extractor will break part if you chisel on it enough. Maybe try your pneumatic air chisel.

On you have the extractor cleaned out, drill and tap the weld nut in the frame to 1/2-13.

Don't have one and i'm broke :tear:
Any other suggestion .....please.

You mean nail punch?

btw, is it ok to drive with just 3 bolts on the crossmember?

Desperate here my friends.:bawl:
I've done that several times without knowing.

How impacted is the extractor in the busted bolt? In other words do you have any room on either side of the busted extractor to use a hammer and punch and just smack the edges until it either falls out or unwedges itself enough to grab ahold of it with something?

Get yourself a left hand drill bit and drill it out.The bolt that broke off. Use lots of heat to start with and it should come right out.Yes you have to run the drill in REVERSE, but this will work after you get the extractor out.Done this a couple of times.I used a mapp gas tourch setup to get it hot before i used my drill bite on it.GO SLOW.

Nah...its broken in the uniframe, would have to cut a hole on the floor thru the frame.
I can't access the broken piece as it broke in the frame.

Someone suggested cobalt drill bit, i got get one i hope it works.
Appreciate if you come up with more ideas.

(I got carried away with newly bought impact wrench :anon:, that's how the crossmember broke in the first place.)

Thx scott.
I actually have 2 problems,
1)Broken bolt stuck in frame
2)Broken bolt extractor (while trying to remove broken bolt) stuck in broken bolt :smsoap: :rattle:.

Need to know how to remove the broken extractor to start off with.
Not sure if i should use heat....broken bolt is driver's side tranny crossmember with is near to the fuel line :explosion.

1) Break up the bolt extractor. It is hardened steel, so you are never going to drill it out. Hardened steel is brittle and can be fractured with a chisel or a good quality nail set.

2) Once the extractor is removed, drill out the entire broken bolt and re-tap the frame nut to 1/2-13 threads.

And if need be, you can drive while missing one bolt. I did it for a week on my XJ when I was doing my transfer case lowering kit...and I did it for 3 years on my TJ...the biggest difference on the TJ is it has 6 bolts instead of 4...so missing one wasn't as big of a deal.

I'll give it a shot. Thx!
If it doesn't break, i'll try some cobalt drill bits (gonna try starting from a small bit and progressing to larger one), using a hand drill at low speed.
Can find and cutting oil this morning at the local store, would engine oil work?

I appreciate all for taking time to help a desperate Jeeper .

Pretty much any type of a lubricating oil...if I didn't have any cutting oil I'd use engine oil. Something to keep the bit lubricated while it's cutting and to try to keep the heat down a bit.

Failed!

Tried breaking it with center punch.
Tried breaking it with pin punch.
Tried drilling it with cobalt drills.

I'm Totally lost now ,
I might call a few auto repair shop and see if they can and how much.

Help please.
