Braking Issues

Quick question regarding a problem I am having on the trail.

I recently regeared and locked both my front D30 and rear Chrysler 8.25. I didnt go to low on the gears, only 4.11, because I am only running 32x11.50's. Now I am having a huge problem on the trail with stopping the jeep. I wheel in 4lo, and my stock brakes dont seem to be making the cut. Sorry if this seems to be a rediculous question but it is a pretty big problem on the trail.

I am just wondering what you guys suggest or brake conversions that you all have done. Thanks

Its a 2000, with roughly 105,000 miles.

ZJ rear disc conversion, been covered many times.

Since he had the rear apart, it's just as likely that the rear brakes are out of adjustment.

Take the drums off and make sure you assembled the self adjusters correctly.
Then, with the rear still on stands and the tires on, crawl under and pull the adjuster plugs out of the backing plates (center bottom). Take a screw driver or brake tool and adjust the brakes by turning the star wheel so it rotates down, Do that until the tire has a bunch of drag on it, then back it off a couple clicks.

See if that doesn't help.

I run an automatic and I have to use my brakes extensively when coming down high country trails. So I make sure the pads and shoes are good and the rear shoes are adjusted correctly. That system has worked for me for a number of years.

Yes the ZJ conversion is a nice fix and it makes it easier to service your brakes, but the rear brakes on a 2000 XJ with a 8.25 are 10X2.5" and are a large improvement over the previous 11X1.5" D35 brakes.
