Bottoming out with my fox 2.0's

hi guys i have a 4.5 inch lift from RE. the previous owner put fox 2.0s on it. I took it to the sand and of course i had to jump it a lil bit hahah.

at the beginning of the jump it bottoms out. mostly only in the rear though. i want to eliminate this. how muuch shock travel will i need to fix this? i would like to run the shocks up through the floor in the back if that would help. i have 31's right now. but in the near future i plan on going to 33's and fiberglass front fenders.

im a newb and i know you all are the pros:wave1:
 
Are your shocks bottoming out or is the jeep hitting the bump stops? longer shocks dont mean more travel, you need taller springs for that. There is a lot more to it than just slapping longer shocks in there. I wouldnt go jumping your jeep till it is set up for it. The unibody is a fragile thing until plated and stiffened, and once you do damage it is pretty much impossible to fix.
 
yeah im pretty sure it was the shocks bottoming out. lol yeah i knew it wasnt a good idea to be jumping it, but it was spur of the moment and the little jump was right there. i didnt jump it too far though. any ideas for springs, shocks, bumpstops? any suggestions?
 
put a small zip tie around the shaft, cycle your suspension and if it isnt there then you are in fact bottoming them out.

that or just go flex it and look yourself.
 
i did the whole zip tie thing when i got my 5100's for my old XJ i learned real quick that i was bottoming out my shocks. i say do like everyone else is saying and actually see if it is first before going about trying to fix something that may or may not be a problem
 
Another thing to think about is shock valving and spring rate. These two work hand n' hand and need to be tuned to your driving style. A typical trail rig that is set up more for flex wont be as ideal for going fast.
