Billing Iraq

don't know much about it, but wouldn't that seem kind of odd.
invading a country, than billing them for doing so? it would certainly make it look like it was done for the wrong reasons. imo.

this is not to start anything, I am un-informed on this subject, just going off what little I have read/heard about it.

I think the invasion vs rebuilding are somewhat unrelated.

We have completely rebuilt their oil infrastructure - along with power, water, etc.

They are now selling quite a bit of oil and keeping all of the profits. Think of it like this. GM goes under, starts destroying itself from the inside. Along comes Toyota and fronts all the money to rebuild all of GM's plants, yet gets zero profit or ownership of GM.

Do you really think that would happen?

i guess we could ask them to pay something but I doubt they will and theres nothing we will do about it if they dont. It'll just make us look weak and pitiful (like we dont already) when we ask for money and they say no, then we just turn tail and walk away emptyhanded.
If we do ask for money, we've got to be prepared to take it from them if they refuse. (which Im ok with)

We could do it in the form of oil. Say, ok, we're going to "claim" 1 million barrels of oil a day til you start doing more....

Oil or money, it doesnt matter. If we say we want it, weve got to be ready to TAKE it from them because they wont be giving it to us.

We just need to start to get them to pay the majority of the reconstruction costs. Bridges, schools, hospitals etc. We should be more than happy to help them build it but only when they pony up the cash.

That's why I said "claim" with quotes :D just another way of saying "take"

that would definately increase the number of people screaming no blood for oil.

I dont know that we should demand it, we would lose our high-road image, but if we stopped supplying the money for the rebuilding andforced them to use the profits there it might be a different story. I dont know, it would be hard to pull off

Well, you have people crying saying we're in Iraq for the oil....even though we're not getting a drop without paying full price for it....

It's shitty oil anyway :D

so who get's this this so claimed oil. you, me, the oil companies? is that gonna lower the price of gas?

I could care less who gets it - the point I'm trying to make is we're building this country back up, after the previous regime destroyed it...and they're reaping all of the benefits. Their government is operational, and they're turning a profit, while we're going into a deficit partly because we're spending OUR money rebuilding THEIR shit.

I would hope that those who decided to start this thing thought far enough ahead to see the cost/time/blood it would take to finish it.

I don't agree with Iraq at all, that being said, once you start something you have to finish it.
I don't agree with the GM/Toyota ref., those are companies, to be sold, bought, traded. This is a country, if it required invasion thats one thing... but to than expect reparations for doing so... I don't get that.

Either way, they are now making money, and seems lots of it. Yes they should be paying for the re-building process, roads, buildings, infrastructure and such... but you shouldn't expect to be compensated for going in on your own accord in the first place.

Its not as bad as you think. The crude that is under the middle east and Texas requires the least refineing and additives to turn into fuel.

Depends which part of the middle east you're referring to....

Western Saudi, along with Africa (SUDAN!!!) has lots of "light sweet crude"

Iraq has "sour crude", along with Kuwait and Iran...Qatar....Eastern Saudi...high in sulfur content, among other things. Same with Venezuela and Mexico.

But you are right, Texas and also, Canadian oil, is very good stuff....

I didnt know that.
Lets pull our troops out of Iraq and Afganistan and send them to Canada. Shouldnt be too hard to take their oil from them.

Gotta watch out for those mounties, eh...

In doing some more research, it seems Basra in Iraq does have a sweet crude deposit...just as the Midland part of Texas has a sour deposit (if I'm reading correctly). I guess it all depends on what exactly died there millions of years ago....?

Where's Brady, he'd know this....

EDIT: Check out the date on this article....

seems a few gov officials south o the border are not happy with the quality of some of our oil up here. complaints about the way oil is refined from the tar sands has a few in a tizzy.
I guess its the oil thats good, but the method of getting it that bothers some.
