biggest tire for stock 2001 cherokee sport

i want to make sure i will be purchasing the right sizes before buying. i cant afford to spend money for dismounting and balancing tires again and again.

CAL - do you what brand of wheels i can buy that offers 4.5 backspacing on a 15x7 rims? is it sure that there will be no rubbing with this amount of backspace?

I'm sure there are dozens of others, that was the first one I thought to look up off the top of my head. Rock Crawler wheels are popular because they are cheap, and they are steel, so when you bend them, you can bend them back into shape easily. They offer several wheels in 15x7 @ 4.5 I think. If you just wanna run 31x10.5's though, I'd stay on the stock wheels. If you do rub, it will be minimal.

i will be putting a 235x75x15 on this rims. do you a 4.5 backspacing wouldnt touch the fender? i am not plaaning to wheel it. jsut for the looks.

I understand very much so about needing to save money. I have 235 bfg at's on fiance's 96 xj and same size bfg mt's on my 99 with stock 15x7 wheels(actually I have stock older gold xj wheels, same story) No problem with rubbing unless sway bar is disconnected, but I never do(just once to see if I could get to rub). We're happy with both, except for the price they cost. However every plus in a tire combination usually has a negative effect somewhere else.

Sorry If I was rude before. That's just what I would do. But also, I'm a dumbass.
But I do have a suggestion learned from expierience, Money saved now by not buying stuff you don't really need will be that much more later to spend when you do need it.

Although, another outlook is that the price of the wheels you want may go up in the future due to inflation, higher gas prices, which way the wind is blowing, etc. So it may be cheaper to get them now.?

I ran 32x11.5 tires on the stock wheels for about 6 months, with the stock 5.25" backspacing. I only rubbed on the control arms when i turned all the way hard one way or the other. I dont think you would need to worry about it. I see a LOT of xj's running 235's on stock wheels and they dont seem to rub, but I havent run that setup myself.

8" rims are really too wide for 235s. Cooper Tire lists 6" through 7" (7-1/2" for a few tires) as the approved rims for 235/75R15 tires. You can put them on 8" rims, but you won't get optimal tread wear and if you air down off-road it'll make it easier to unseat a bead.

The comment that 4" backspacing may cause clearance problems is correct. The stock wheels allow the tires to tuck up inside the fenders. Drastically reduced backspacing doesn't allow this. If you really like the appearance of black wheels, pick up a cheap set of used factory steel rims from some Jeep guy who went huge and paint 'em black.

i have a set of BFG 235x75x15 on 15x8 black Cragars with 4" backspace and they fit with no rubbing, but i have a 2" BB. i doubt you could get away with a 4" BS without a lift

i am currently running a 235x75x15 on a stock steel wheel with no problem. i just like the looks of those black steelies.

1. would anybody know where i can find a black steelies with the likes of cragar, rock crawler or american racing that has the same backspacing with the stock steel wheel?

2. or at what is the least back spacing can i have with out having a lift and at least with minimmal or no rubbing on a 15x7 steel wheel? i am thinking that if the tire is sticking out a bit might look good. but i have no idea which one to get without rubbing the fender.

thanks to all!

Chop the hell out of your fenders, sipe the hell out of some 31x12.5 boggers, drive them untill they are bald (about 3k). All question answered.

Seriously though, it seems most people who drive their play rigs on the street alot prefer the MTR's or BFG's. Both look badass and will give you good tire milage as long as you keep them rotated and balanced.

i reallly like the MTR...

what whell backspacing do you recommend for 235x75x15?

what whell backspacing do you recommend for 30x9.5?

thank you all for the replies!... most probably i will be getting a 30x9.5 BFG all terrain KO and put it on a 15x7 balck steel with 5 backspacing.. kindly reply with your thoughts.

I have the REVO on mine. They look and perform much, much better than the Goodyears .

It seems that what was advertised is true, performance does not decrease with age. As for size, I think the other members answered it already.
