Bias Tire Question

Before you ask, I did do a search, and didn't find anything on this.

I was wondering if anybody has run Bias Tires on a daily driver. I am looking at some LTB Bias tires. I heard that radials are better all around tire, but that Bias tires are better off-road. I'm wondering if they are exceptionally bad on the road, or if it isn't a big deal.

I'm currently running BFG MT's and they pretty much munch anything or dig a deep hole, depending.

Also on a side question. is there much difference in a 32x11.50 or a 31x12.50? I'm planning on running the rubicon in a month, so I'm not sure if the shorter wider tire will climb better or worse.

bias tires will get flat spots in them after sittin overnight and will be a bumpy ride for the first 15 minutes or so until the tire warms up. ltbs are made of a pretty soft compound and will wear pretty fast on the street but they are great offroad.as for the size, i'd go with the taller tire.

I've got 34x10.50 LTB's, they are loud, they don't handle very well, and they are soft rubber. In other words, don't put them on a DD unless you are not bothered by a rough wobbly ride and don't put too many miles on it. As for the size thing, wide tires look cooler, but other than adding weight they don't seem to make much difference to me... unless you are on sand

The tire height actually varies more than some people realize, which means that some "32s" might actually be 31" tall or less depending on the manufacturer. I'd put a tape measure up to them to really see the height difference, or you could maybe compare them side by side. (My 33" mickey thompsons are actually 31.5" tall brand new)

For my reccomendation, I'd go taller over wider for more ground clearance.

I guess I will stick with the BFG's then. I have had them for over a year, and they have seen very little road wear in that time. Of course I have slashed them with my fenders a few times, and they got some wear on the edges when I spun them on granite. Thanks for the input.

I have 35" creepies and i dont dd my rig. But i have driven on the road & under 45mph its really not to bad, it is rough and definately doesnt drive like its on radials. But over that speed, like trying to drive on the freeway it sucks... lots of wobbles & directional instability. I dont drive it on freeways anymore so its not an issue & for the durabilty & traction offroad, im stoked with the tires.

So if you plan on doing high & frequent miles on the street, i would definately go with radials. There are many great radial tires that do the job well offroad.

Definitely go taller vs. wider, also if you are doing the rubicon with 32" tires you will want ample rocker, and differential protection. I would cut your fenders and run 33's.

I have plenty of armor (rocker rails are the best upgrade second only to lift and tires), and will be installing a locker soon. I've already trimmed my fenders but plan to do more as I still get a little rub even with 32's. I'm tempted to try 33's, but my brother is running a similar lift on his grand and he was slashing his tires even with a lot more cutting than I plan on, and the tires were bald to begin with, so I'm hesitatant to go bigger. I wish I could go 32-12.50 but no one makes a tire like that. So far I have done pretty well with 32's aired down to about 12-15 lbs. add the locker and I should be set..hopefully.

FYI: We just made an test trip up to the rubicon from lake side. There is still a lot of snow, but should look better by june

last weekend with my tires on my brothers grand.

Go with 33's and run taller bump stops. Grands always rub more than XJs.

I RUN 35*1450 BOGGERS DAILY ABOUNT 80MILES A DAY AND THEY DRIVE PERFECT. XJ'S ARE SO LIGHT THAT WEAR IS NOT A REAL ISSUE I GOT 38k ON MY LAST SET OF IROKS.

I DD mine with 37x13.50 bias Pitbulls and I love them. SOOO much better than my BFG's were. Yeah, they get flat spots, yeah, you can't balance them, but for a bias ply tire, they do great. After they warm up, they sort of balance out, at least to where the BFG's were balanced to. Its really all in the tire. If you go with a tire that doesn't like the road, well, its gonna let you know...and fast.

For reference, I DD mine with coilovers, full hydro steering, 37x13.50x17 Pitbull Rockers on steel wheels, it is smooth as a caddy.....and they don't float like the BFG's did at speeds above 75 or 80mph.
