BF Goodrich tire comparisons....

My 35" BFG All-Terrains kick ass in the rain, dry, and snow. Forget the mud. Ive barely escaped certain entrampment with my AT's in some 2' mud bogs. Almost got stuck. Ick. They turn into big mud balls and dont clean themselves good enough. I'm saying to hell with it, and buying a set of 41x13x15 super swamper boggers. That will take care of the mud issue.

Forget all that. Be a man and slap in a Dana 60 or Dana 70. Then you'll be set for life. How's that sound? :p LOL. I slapped a little Dana 60 in the end of my 91 XJ (11" lift, 41" tires), and it owns. Front Dana 44 is strong too.

and then here a week ago you claim to still have a d30...

buy two precision super heavy duty u joints and slap them in your front axle. thats what i did, i run 35x1250's on my D30, and it owns. good u joints. about 15 bucks each at bumper to bumper, or equivelant.

and in this post you claim to only have an 8" lift - not an 11" lift...

Hi, 91 XJ 4.0 HO, 8" skyjacker RR kit. Ahh, I have a weird question. What do you think it is when you hear a clicking noise coming from the engine when it is running? It gets progressivly faster when I accelerate. My oil is full, so I don't believe it is that, and I get good pressure and such. Could it be a bad valve or pushrod? Is there anyway I could find out before I have to tear it all apart? Sounds like its comin from cylinder 6.

dont think that people dont notice when stuff doesnt add up

believe me i have more than eough time to waste on things like this...

why hasnt anyone mentioned the side walls on the MTR
thats the only reason I went with em as opposed to the BFG MT
I guess I have bad luck and tend to slice up sidewalls quite a bit..

course I live and wheel in the desert..and when youi are ona 2 day trip and slice a side wall on the first day well....yoiu always think if I cut another one Im screwed..

a plugged sidewall is a huge safety issuem specially if you drive to runs

if your gonna be wheeling, not just playing around on weekends but wheeling, there is no sense in getting an all terrain. if you insist on good street manners and good offroad as well, get two sets of tires.

Personally I would go with the M/T's. I would rather be better prepared for the worse situation's. Now anybody correct me if I am wrong but, I was told that the A/T's are really not going to last too much longer than the M/T's. If this is true, go with the M/T's. Just my 2 cents.

35" Creepy Crawlers by Maxxis.... Awesome tire! Just pricey.

Heck, I am running A/T's and have gone everywhere I wanted and needed to go. I will eventually go to M/T's.

Good Luck!

It really depends on how you drive and how often you rotate your tires. But yes, A/Ts will generally last longer than M/Ts... of course brand has to be taken into consideration too.

Worth a read. http://www.rockcrawler.com/techreports/goodyear_mtr35/page2.asp

Also, if you follow the article, it'll link you to a tire balancing gadget. Read that story also and you'll notice that they say that BFG MTs suck in terms of reliability for a DD.

After some research on the net and Naxja, I've found my next set of tires. I'm only recommending you look into them. Apparantly, the more I read about them, the more I like them.

I know that people commonly get 50k miles on BFG ATs, but I felt you needed another vote for the TruXus MTs. I have put 35K miles on mine and they have been great at everything I have thrown at them: rocks, mud, snow, dry pavement, wet pavement, you name it. They are really a great all around tire, and you can usually pick them up cheaper than the BFG ATs.

Im running 31" BFG A/T's here in the midwest. In the mud which is what it is half the time, they are horrible. Alot of loose hillclimbs and even ditches and ruts, Ive had nothing but problems. Bad at cleaning also..

A buddy just bought a set of 35x12.5" TrXus for his LJ. He had some problem in the mud with them, but I might also add, hes running stock axles and gears. Its pathetic. Its nice being able to outdrive the rich kid with all the $$$ in a 2" lifted XJ with 31's, cut fenders and no sway bars, and wait, I have a set of balls too.

For off road, MT's are awesome, but for snow / rain, the AT's rule. The AT's do get clogged up in the mud, and the MT's definetly throw some mud. I presently have MT's and mostly (unfortunetly) ride on the road, and have no problems. They sure do look meaner... My .02

I know you're discussing BFs, but, I run ProComp MT's (31x10.5) on my 2000 XJ Sport and they have sipes. I gave my ProComp AT's to my brother for his TJ. The MT's run even smoother on dry cement and freeways and will be getting better bite when the snows and ice come down.
To make it even better, I got a special deal that included 4 free Rock Crawler wheels (in black) and it looks awesome.

I ment right at about 500...not under. And thats with the "good buddy" discount...
You must be a really good buddy! I get them wholesale and with tax 4 - 32's were mid 600's.

MT/R's all the way!

I have either driven or owned BFG MT's, AT's, MTR's, and Trxus personally, and I'll tell you that if you can't decide between MT and AT go with Trxus.
MT's will be better in the mud, but you sacrifice on road ride. AT's will suffer in off-road situations, but be nicer on road. Trxus has the best of both worlds. They're very sufficient off road and nice to drive on the highway.
I've tried them all.
