The OM 5cyl diesels are great little engine that are used all around the world. Mercedes definitely knows their stuff when it comes to diesels. I too would be interested to see what the final product looks like.

It looks like with the regular OM engine they aren't extending the front clip.

Holy hell, pass the crack pipe.

That has to be a "checkbook build", I'd like to shake his mechanic's hand for separating a fool from his money in such an effective manner. Yikes :wow:

Paying for labor I can kind of see it. None the less, as many big money parts are on that thing it needs a fair a mount of work to make it worthy of said part.

"Custom drive shafts with Heim joints"?

Like to see that one.

Perfect example as to why this jeep could have cost him $100K in receipts. He clearly has NO clue what was done to his jeep, just knew what he wanted it to do and probably got sold-up on mods/parts by the shop(s) he used...... nothing wrong with that..... I suppose.

DANA 60 REAR FROM CURRIE - $1200 (Denver)

Just bolt in. Narrowed for stock Jeep YJ with 5 on 4.5. Has spring perches for springover or under. ARB locker, 4.88 Richmond gear, pro alloy 35 spline axles with set 20 bearings, disc brakes. Never broke and no problems with this axle. Sorry I have no pictures.
$1200 without the locker, or will sell with the locker $2100 firm. Paid over $3300 new. Also have the Dana 30 from a YJ with ARB and 4.88 Superior gear. The 2 piece axle was replaced with the one piece axle. $600. Email or call 720-429-4350 NO TEXT Rick

anyone think t$1200 is a little high for a basic stock like semi float 60 rear housing without a locker

If its a Currie then its not a basic stock-like Dana 60. It'll 9" style disc brakes on it (hence the set 20 bearing comment), 35 spline Chromolly shafts, extra thick tubes, it'll be a high pinion rear axle, Currie's custom cast housing that's stronger than stock with the diff cover sitting almost on top of it for better protection. I'd say its worth it. If I still had an XJ I'd love to run it out back.

currie makes many axle build levels , and I'm not sure what they make today or 15 years ago ,but this axle is about 15 years old it looks to be a basic 60 housing like any 60 rearHD housing ...it's not DISC brake...it's not HIGH pinion it's not some super thick walled unit , and the seller is asking $1200 without the locker and $2100 with the locker left in it ...It is a Currie ,But it's not the Bling Bling Bling model you're thinking of I should know I've tossed many rocks under the back tires of the YJ it came off of ...

Well that changes things a little bit, but as I actually went through the process of building a similar axle myself I can break down some of the costs for you.

Rear Dana 60: $50-150
Custom shafts to use Torino/New Style 9" axle bearings: $400-600
Housing Ends: $95 http://www.moserengineering.com/other-parts/housing-ends/big-ford-new-style-torino.html
Having CrawlerTech use a true bar to weld the housing ends on true/straight with the housing: $150
Explorer Disc Brake setup from a junkyard: $50 (figure more money for new pads, rotors, and calipers)

Then add in the cost of an install kit, gears, and your locker of choice.

It can quickly add up to at least the 1200$ he is asking, even more if you go with a selectable locker. If you can't install the gears yourself figure in more money for that. That's also not including the price of shock mounts and spring perches.

When I started looking into the cost of putting my rear axle together I decided it wasn't worth the money to me. I was going to make it 5x5.5 and was working on also narrowing a front HP Dana 44 to use TJ Rubicon inner shafts and Ford Knuckles/outers. It would have been a slick combo but too much work and money just to run 35's.

Cash spent building in parts/labor is never reclaimed on sale ...I think the add just grabbed me so Phunnay B/C I know the seller and I know what his reaction would be to a listing like his own add , as i've seen his recation to tire adds and such by sellers with the same delusional price quotes expecting to reclaim most of the cash invested on their now used items ...but hey if it sells like this more power to him...not likely...but more power to him ,and then i need him to sell my used Boggers ,which may need put on the Florida craigs list .

This has some really nice parts sitting in/under it ,but not set up in any way that would out perform a Jeep on 31-33's with stock axles and lunchbox lockers ... lol...even if he put some good sized rubber on this it still lokks to be sporting a very useless stock wheelbase .

I really don't think his pricing is that far off. As I said, you really can't build a narrowed 5x4.5 Dana 60 for any less. Obviously its a niche customer who wants it, but then again the YJ's didn't come with anything other than a Dana 35 out back, so it might be worth it to somebody.

I agree. V8, RockJock 60 front, Dana 60 Rear, built trans, ARB, Atlas, and a Sport Cage kit. It has a lot of the makings for a sweet crawling rig but was executed in a manner that doesn't really let it out perform a mildly modified TJ or stock Rubicon w/ larger tires. Well, with the V8 he'll go down the highway better. Its a shame. Lose 2" of springs, add some tube/highline fenders front and rear, further reinforce the cage, stretch the wheel base out to at least 100", and go to an aggressive 37" tire and that thing would be a sweet rig. Unfortunately its priced too high to buy with the intent of doing all that.

Wasn't a scam....... probably a few folks annoyed with such a stupid ad.....
