I've talked to that same guy. Saw his ad on ComancheClub for a $700 2wd MJ that had two tail gates in the bed......

I may run down there in the near future to grab a 2wd AX15 he's got - to replace the growling BA10 in the black MJ.

Looking through his photobucket account........ he's got jeep hoarding MUCH worse than I do...... he collects 'em all. XJ/WJ/ZJ/MJ/FSJ.......

That's Jim, over on Comancheclub, and he is a hoot and a half.

IDK, even if the nest is worth maybe $1k, is a '86, 2.5L, even if pristine, worth $3300? Probably why its been around for sale for so long... to quote Adam Sandler, "the price is wrong, bitch" :D

That’s the Long bed Wnest I can't find those anywhere for 1000 bucks. The short bed ones are hard to find for cheep much less a long one. Unless I bring the suck at web searching. SHUSSSSSSSSSH!!!!!
I'd love to have a little DD 4x4 truck I only drive about 25 miles a day for work, so it’s not going to see hard driving action on it. With a DD then I can start phase II of the silver bullet build up.
I was thinking $3k would be a good price for that setup if not maybe 1000 just for the topper if anything for my trailer I have. That the setup you gave me for the back I’d be rocking a good camping setup.

If that '86 is clean and in good condition...... it'd be killer with a 4.3/5speed swap from an early '90's S-10. The biggest issue with those early MJ's is the electrical - particularly right at the junction where the harness bulkhead is on the fire wall....

I gotta think the guy would be willing to sell just the camper....... :dunno:

Sounds like he's kept up on the truck. I texted him and going to go look at it. He said the shell has no cracks it's in great shape and the tent part is in really good shape he lost the two extra poles for when it's open. I can work with that. He said he “might” be willing to sell just the camper. FINGERS CROSSED! I'd like both so that the XJ can take a break and I can do the long arm and get those axles under it then bump up to 35s and trouble shoot a few items on the XJ along with some TLC it needs.

The poles that "support" the bed, really don't, so I wouldn't worry about it. Supposedly they add some stability when its windy, but I can't say I've noticed. Per the owners manual they are not necessary to actually "support" the bed, that's done by the cable system inside. Good luck!

if you do get that one, my buddy has a 4.3 stoker in his 92 s10. he is going to pull it and sell it in fall. he is doing an ls1 swap into his s10 and wont need the stroker/trans. ill ask him what hes selling it for.

the only reason i saw the other mj as a better deal is because of the motor difference.

but now that troy mentioned the 4.3 swap, it reminded me that my buddy was talking about selling his 4.3 stroker. lol

I don’t mind the 4 banger, but I would prefer having the I6 for the torque, and power if I needed to pull or haul something if size and weight. My old man and I have a shared 89 Toyota truck with the 22RE but it’s the sort bed with almost 300k on the ticker, so I’m used to a worn out motor, and almost every time I need it he has it loaded down with a bunch of stuff he’s hauling off to church groups and the ark or good will for people. I do like that other truck as an option, and I like the color of it as well. I would entertain the idea of a 4.3 swap just down the road. The main deal is to get a reliable DD so that I can give some much needed TLC and build up on the XJ. The first red one the guy listed a lot of the repairs and replacement parts that if I was to get something used odds are I’d go over most of those parts to replace anyways. If he’s already done that then that labor and parts and time out of my way it can go from registering to driving right away. And new tires is a plus a lot of them tend to have worn and or undersized tires.

Troy thanks for the heads up on the electrical stuff I’ll keep my eye out for that when I see the truck. If I can get the WilderNest off the guy alone I would be stoked. What’s a good going rate to offer this guy for the long bed version of this camper. 700 to 900 bucks maybe?

Chris I’ve seen a few post and read looks like the poles aren’t a big deal and it can support like 350 to 400 without the poles. Be it I do or don’t need them I don’t think it would be hard to make a set.

If the nest is in really good shape, and if it has most of the factory accessories (vent window stays, velcro-attached door, curtains, lofts, etc.), it probably has a market value of $1k or maybe slightly more (I think they are selling slowly, like everything else, in this economy). I think starting at $700 is a bit of a lowball, but the worst he can say is "no".

As to the DD angle on this truck, I DD'd an 89 MJ with the 2.5 (FI) for over a year - it has totally shitty power, but you appear used to and prepared for that, but it apparently will run forever, virtually without coolant, and with oil that you could stand up a spoon in (you should have seen the crap that came out of mine when I bought it). They are seriously durable engines, although the 86 might be carbed, and I have no experience with that. The milage is barely better than a stock 4.0, however, the best I ever got in my 2.5 MJ was around 22mpg, average, but more often it was 17-18.

Good info I'll go over all that. I'll for sure have him set it up for me right there and then to make sure it's there and functional as he said it is.
thanks.

I get around 12 right now so I'd be ok even with 17 to 18 or even say 22 hwy would be a nice change. My xj is stock gears on 33s performance wise I'm ok or just used to it and I don't drive crazy in it. I have a front and rear axle swap D44 HPd30 with 4:56 gears but I'm holding off for the longarm setup to put the axles under it. One reason I need a DD. that and work really is a short drive.

I'd be concerned with this drivetrain on 37's, but this is still a serious deal for a trail rig... tells self: I do NOT need another jeep, I do NOT need another jeep...

Yeah honestly if I didn't have a good bit of debt to payoff, as well as buying a towrig and trailer...this would be sitting in my driveway right now as something to wheel in the meantime until the buggy is done :D

I'm running a 7 to 8 year old and a bit saggy 4.5 Re super flex lift with 33s ATs, and want to bump up to a long arm/ ylink 5.5” to 6” at the most with 35s If I went bigger than 35s I would put more money into building bigger axles. Who knows I might down the road, but right now I don’t do many trails that are too hard I just want a bit more clearance lift and a better ride. Yet also kind of just leaning to making this more of an adventure rig and leaving it were it is with maybe drop brackets who knows either way I stick with 33s but I’ll have a 5.5 lift with the option of going bigger and with 4:56 gears I should be fine. Really how bad A$$ does it have to be to wheel in the mall parking lot? O yes lockers NUTS!!!!!!!

I'd love to find one of those in the junk yard to snatch the console and 5-speed related parts and convert a newer ZJ...... the '93's were such huge POS's.

But yeah, definitely rare. And at least it's not a goofy color combination. I've seen two others and both had bright red interior...... :puke:
