Would I be wrong if I kicked all 3 of these Craigs-tards in the balls?
I call a guy on a Sonoma truck advertised at $2000. He tells me about it and I offer him no more than $1600 based on description and that price may change after seeing/driving it. He says absolutely "I need to sell this asap." He says body is straight, orig. paint, clean all around. Nope...... It used to be a Denver Public Works truck, beat to hell, tail gate is held in place with bungies and used to be blue. Bed sides have painted over city decals. Seat is worn to the metal frame/springs. Tires are dry rotted. 45 min drive for me in traffic to come up there..........
Since I'm up north, I check Craigs again to see if there's anything worth looking at.
I find a new ad for a '74 Duster with no title, been sitting in a field for years. Lots of neat parts from the pics in the ad. Asking $1250. I call, he says front clip is perfect, not rusted, straight. Says interior is complete and "decent". It has ralley wheels, buckets, console and is a 318/auto car which means disc brakes and 8.25 rear axle. I offer $1000 IF all is as described. Again "Sure, that sounds good, I just need it off my buddy's property." It's in Hudson, about 30 min from where I saw the Sonoma. I haul out there...... and it's a basket case. Fenders are both bashed up, front bumper looks like the primary tow point for having moved it around the field and bent to snot. Interior does have good buckets, but the console is busted up, and the interior plastics are broken and brittle. There's INCHES of mouse poop inside it and it smells like amonia. It's missing a ralley wheel. I offer what I figured to be a generous $800. He says "I want $1100". Huh? It was $1K 30 min ago......
This morning I get a call from another Sonoma seller. It looks to be exactly what I'm looking for. Lowered, louvered, pretty trick pinstriping... Asking $2200, I offer $1800 max and he says "That sounds good." I haul out there this morning, look it over, drive it and tell him I'll take it. "Well, I can't sell it today. It's my only vehicle. It'll be a couple weeks, maybe more before I get another car. I'll call you then."
