I got that trussed super 35 geared to 4.88 and NIB gears and carrier for a 30 out of a trade for parts collecting dust in my garage, then a master install kit was $100 and Terry was gonna install the gears and carrier in the front for $100 (coupon from COfest). Geared and locked for $200.
Have patience and keep your eyes open, good deals are out there its just a matter of findin them.

4:10's would be just OK for 33's. I'd recommend 4:56 myself.......

Not 100% sure, but it looks like the breakdown goes like this:

D30's use 3 different size carriers: 3:07-3:55, 3:73-4:46, and 4:56-4:88

D44's use one for stock gears under 3:92, then go 3:92 to 5:38

Couldn't find much on the 8.25 quickly, but I believe they breakdown about the same as a D44, maybe lower - around 3:55. :dunno:

First thing: Never buy used gears unless you're confident in the seller and his reasons for selling used gears.

Second: Unless you're gonna install the gears yourself (not recommended unless you truely know what you're doing and have the right tools - I don't even install my own gears......), you're looking at a minimum of $200 per axle for install, $90 - $130 per axle for the master install kit, and then the cost of the gears........ and don't forget that for the most part, gear sets 4:10 and higher will require a different carrier, or a full carrier locker to install them.

But it's true - if you're patient, you can score built axles ready to bolt in every now and then........ Just ask Beezle - $600 for a matched set HP D30/8.25 with 456's, EZ locker in front, Powertrax lunchbox for the rear. (God, I musta been insane....... :doh




BTW: Anyone wanting to have their axles professionally re-geared, get with Terry (87xjco) - he cuts as good a deal as there is out there and has/will do all my gear work. :thumbup: ......... unless Led will do it for free...... :laugh3:

still collecting parts and tools... bought a lincoln 180 already, pickin up a jd2 bender on sat , got the axles worked out(kingpin 60 frt arty donor jeep is in the hanger for the auto swap,still looking for a d300 for the doubler,steel order will go in next week, yadda yadda yadda

Well I talked to him, he said he might be interested in a trade. He won't have any free time till Sunday so I'm gonna go check it out then. I haven't decided if I want it though.

It has a 350 small block bought new from GM about 18k ago cooled by a really big 3 core aluminum racing radiator, I think he said its got a turbo 700 2wd tranny mated to an NP231 from a 99 XJ with an Advanced Adapters SYE. Stretched wheelbase. Chevy 14 bolt mini spool rear, 44 open front with Spicer D60 joints. Says the axles are geared at 3.73 but that the gear ratio in the tranny turns the 40's real well... we'll see about that when I go test it out. I'm not sure I like the suspension though... its got leafs all around, fronts are from a YJ and I don't recall what the rears were. Apparently it flexes good (900 on a 25* RTI ramp) but I bet the leafs give it a pretty firm ride.

I'll know more on Sunday, but from what there is do you guys think its a good deal? I like the rig (minus the leafs, gears, and mini spool/open diffs) but I'm not sure I wanna give up my truck for it. My options are to trade the truck for this rig and then I'll have a crawler but I'll have to DD it, or I can keep the truck and build up the 88 into a crawler and then I'd have a DD/Jeep Hauler AND a toy built exactly how I want, but I don't think I'd have that finished by next season.

Its got a Edelbrock carb and intake. Used somethin from Advanced Adapters to mate the tranny to the t-case.
I've DD'd a rig with 33's and 3.07s, and another with Detroits on both ends... I'm used to Jeeps with bad road manners lol.
If I get it I'll be doin tube fenders so I won't be needin the mudflaps. He said that it had Dana 60 joints, new from Spicer.
