i don't have to tell you, craiglist's search engine is so rudimentary. by contrast, ebay's search allows you to set search parameters, save your searches and recieve notifications, and does not limit you to location.

i'd like to find software that does this, and i know there are some programs out there. does anyone here use craiglist's search software? what do you use? do you like it?

I have a vehicle for sale that you might be interested in. It would be perfect as a base camp for a hunting expedition. I bought it to live in and lived in it all last winter but I met a beautiful woman and don't really need the truck anymore. We decided to downsize to a 4x4 van for camping.

The truck is a 1969 Kaiser/Jeep M292A2 Expansible Van. I bought it in Morro Bay, CA and drove it 1300 miles back to Cortez, CO. It has 3,040 original miles and 160 hours. I know the history of the truck and is corresponds with the low mileage. It has a Hercules Diesel engine that can run on anything. It does not have a turbo although they can be added pretty easily. I personally like the fuel mileage and rock solid reliability of the non turbo engine and I'm not the type that's in a hurry anyway. The truck goes up mountain passes like any loaded semi would but it gets to the top every time and has never overheated or anything while going up. The chassis is a 2 1/2 ton model. It starts after a few cranks, even at -15 below, and I would trust it to drive anywhere. The outer tires have been replaced with decent ones and it tops out at 55mph on the highway. Because of the gearing, 45 is a better cruise speed. On my trip back from California, is averaged 8 mpg going 50ish while towing another truck. It has a large pintle hitch and can easily pull a horse trailer or atv trailer. The 6 wheel drive system works perfectly and because of the extra weight of the box in the back and the extended wheelbase, it's much better offroad than a cargo type truck. I've had it in deep sand, deep snow, and deep mud and it will go anywhere. I came down the forest road into Purgatory ski resort last winter when the only things up there were snow mobiles. The best feature other than the ultra low hours is the expansible van body.

About the body: The box opens up to roughly 17 feet long, 16 feet wide, and 6 1/2 feet tall inside. It is mostly aluminum with ducting under the floor for heat. I installed a wood stove in it last year with plans to make a heat exchanger to blow heat through the floor but never got around to doing it because the stove kept it toasty warm all winter with less than a cord of wood. There is a futon in there but it could easily be replaced with bunk beds. The box is wired for AC and had both fluorescent and incandescent lights inside but I have never hooked up to power to test it. I simply used battery powered LED lights, hauled water in, and waste out, and kept a cooler and porta potty for emergencies. Some of the windows, latch mechanisms, seals, and interior paneling need some work but it is totally functional as is. As I said, I had it parked in Hesperus, CO all winter. The body expands with a large ratchet mechanism, a 1 inch socket, and muscle power. I can set it up by myself if 30 minutes and much less with help. It is a hard sided, very secure body so it can be locked up and left without worry. It is insulated and very comfortable. You could drive this thing up any forest road to a camp site and set it up in a few minutes and have much more security and comfort than a wall tent could ever provide.

The only mechanical issues with the truck are very minor ones. It needs new headlights ($16 each at the heavy equipment store). The horn and low air pressure buzzer aren't working. Two of the rear wheel cylinders are leaking. I have a few wheel cylinder rebuild kits and one rebuilt cylinder that come with it. If you have a pallet jack and flat spot, you can remove the wheels together with the axle shaft and immediately access the wheel cylinders for repair. I was told that they can be done in under 1/2 hour each. The leaks look bad but I filled the master cylinder in California and drove it 1300 miles before it was noticeably low in the reservoir. I'd really like for potential buyers to come take a look at it and drive it but I can also deliver the truck anywhere for fuel cost.

The buyer will need to apply for a bonded title and get a certified VIN inspection done at your local highway patrol office. The truck was purchased from Government Liquidation in 1997 and they filled out the SF-97 incorrectly so the gentleman that purchased it from them didn't bother to fight with them for a title because he just used it for a movie prop. The person I bought it from bought it from him on ebay and it sat out in California for a few years before I brought it back. I have a bill of sale and will issue a bill of sale to the buyer. The titling process isn't very difficult but I drive it so rarely that I haven't pursued getting the title. I've got it insured and I just chance the ticket on the rare occasion that I have to drive it on the highway.

I need $6,500 for it and it's worth every penny......probably even more as parts/scrap metal!!!. The truck is parked at All About Surplus at 2531 E. Main Street in Cortez, CO.
