Talk him down 50 bucks. get the tires. If you wanna regear go for it if you have the money. Then the gearz install :D just remember you need gears and master install kits why not throw a locker or 2 in there also

If you have a manual then the 33s will suck on the highway and uphill but if you have an automatic then you'll be at the bottom of the ok range, you shouldn't need to regear.

HUH???? 5 gears = bad, 3 gears = good???? Either you need to pay better attention in auto class or someone needs to slap your instructor. It's totally the other way around.

Gear ratios for the AW4 are: 2.80, 1.53, 1.00, .075 (overdrive)

Gear ratios for the AX 15 are: 3.83, 2.33, 1.44, 1.00, .079

A 5 speed is going to handle both hills and highway MUCH better than an auto. 1st gear in a manual transmission is lower than an auto's first gear, and the final drive 5th gear is higher than the auto's final 3rd gear......

If I had to run 33's...... I'd WANT a 5 speed trans.......

'Noob. Yes, you can run 33's.......... but you're gonna hate it on mountain highways. The auto trans is going to CONSTANTLY down shift on the slightest of hills, your gas mileage is gonna decrease significantly because of the higher RPM's from the down shifting to maintain speed. Noteable loss of power/acceleration.

You've got 3:55's in your axles now. 4:56's would be perfect, 4:10's would be helpful.

I was thinking about the axles, not the trans. Yes an AX15 would be better, but the 3.55 gears in the AW4 axles are better than the 3.07s you get with the 5 speed. I had both on the same tires (although still had the AX15) and the 3.55s were quite a bit better than the 3.07s around town.

Now now.......... :nono:

Yeah, I've already seen that one.
I would grab that in a second if I had the $$, but my budget is half that :bawl:

And I'm confident I could handle the engine.

Wouldn't want it.
I already have an XJ to build, I'm looking for a DD/6-7 trail rating capable vehicle, Ford or Jeep and not an XJ or a Grand. I'm going to check out a CJ8 on Sunday, and I have a really clean YJ and a nice CJ5 that might want to trade straight across.
So if anybody sees a Wrangler of any flavor other than Willy's, JK, and CJ (except for CJ5s and CJ8s), or a nice Ford with a 350 or larger, for under 5500 or for trade, lemme know.

uumm

That just goes to your Search.
Where it says "jeep" in the search window, add the character "+" and the word "winch". That will narrow the result down to 12 ads. ;)

Happy hunting!
