Best of Craigslist

Haha, if you guys really want some rusty XJs, just let me know and I'll hook you up. :D

Lol, indeed!

This ad had me thinking of our little arrangement........ You're the second rust-belt guy I've bought an XJ for.

This ^^^

Yes you can save some money doing it yourself. But taking into account the amount of time to obtain the case, blast it, clean it paint it, assemble it, etc...you're hours into into. For me, my time is worth enough based on what I make hourly...that things like this become more desired. I'd rather spend the extra $ for a complete ready to run case then spent what will amount to less than say $10/hour saving by obtaining everything (fuel, driving time, etc), pulling it apart, assembling it, etc.

Yes for most of us it would make sense to buy the used $250 case with SYE. Then again, some want to know they're essentially getting a new case for $500 more that is going to be a bit better than a used one.

Me...spend a liiiittle more and get a used 4.3 Atlas :D

we're talking a few hours on a weekend not a 2 year project ...:spin1:

For me it's 1.5 hours to springs where tools are. Another half hour to the upap. Then repeat time home. That's 4 -5 hours for travel and pull time. Then I need to tear it down and see what parts I need to replace, go to store to purchase (more travel and shop time) then install the sye when it shows up.
So now I'm out say 6-7 total hours to install a couple hundred dollar part and clean up/ seal up a case. So that's about $200 of my time and several of my few hours off. And fuel(springs and back is another $50) And supplies. Etc. Etc.
So if case cost me 50 I'm easily 500 into it counting for my time. Ya I'll pay a little more and let someone else get dirty.

LOL...I already have a 231 with a an SYE as a spare ready to go in if the 231 i have explodes out of the Blue I cost me $275 to build it was nice case to start it only needed an SYE to be a ready bolt in as a spare....So far imy 231 with hd sye has held up to 40 Boggers I may try my luck with a bigger shoes or just stay 40s for next tires , but since it's no Atlas or 205 I have a spare .

Like I said. Your value is different from mine. Is mine was different a year or two ago.
You see value in big tires and tons but others who can do it on smaller (read cheaper) stuff don't cuz what they have works. :dunno:

My rig is a basic budget built rig on 40s it has nothing high dollar bling on it ...just polished junk yard axles even still has a 231 t-case . I don't think a full bodied XJ would do well running Carnage on 33-35s , so at some point you gotta pay to play and you can play more if you do more of your own work ...lol...maybe not as often since you'll be wrenching instead of wheeling ,but unless you're making big money the statememt my time is worth more than the labor is usually not true since 50-100hr is what shops charge and my time is sure not worth $50-100hr

I may not take it to a shop but I might take it to someone else who can do it for a better rate than myself as a good chunk of time is spent fixing my own screw ups.
I didn't say your rig was bling. Im just saying you don't see the value in a new case vs one built less/cheaper. Same with a rig built less/cheaper. Both do same thing. Its just perspective.

the one at 5500 is worth 5,000 as it sits it's pretty well built and a ready trail rig ...lol...the red one is clean ,but not built to be 12,500 and a stock XJ and 7,000 better have a story behind it if purchased for $7,000 . I'm still rolling over at the Limited slips in bone stock axles and a 12,500 price tag , but maybe his girl wants it gone so went to special Bluebook pricing to make sure it sells real quick .

Was searching for a replacement trailer wheel for my car hauler and this popped up in the search.

Original owner. Bought new in 1967 for his twin daughters who used it to haul their dolls and teddy bears up and down the street. Lasted about a year and they lost interest. Up into the attic it went........ until today. :D

Stupid cheap too. Well, the guy knew what he had "I watch American Pickers and Pawn Stars.... don't low ball me".... LOL. But I got a real good deal.

I'd never seen trailers for these. This Uhaul trailer is BUILT too...... twice as heavy as the car!

They're both just in incredible shape.
