its tune up time.....

would like to throw some nice stuff on (not just cheap no name stuff)

what are the best wires to use (would like a 9mm)
is there a "BEST" cap n rotor i can get for my 4.0 XJ?

how do those "Fire Power Ignition Kits" rate? ( i know they are WAY overpriced)
(see them in the Spring 2003 "Essentials for Jeep Cherokee" catalogue here for 169.95 for new cap n rotor, wires and "screamin demon" coil (allows u to run a .065" plug gap)

is this stuff all smoke n mirrors or is it worth thinking about?

what other brands might be good?

Considering that the manufacturers are REQUIRED by LAW to pass emission tests and they hate wasting money I consider the OEM best for the money. The Cap and rotor are not that expensive from the dealer, fit and work fine. Now the wires, they do make a high performance wire. I was going to get them last month but I hate waiting and the dealer did not have them in stock so I bought the stock wires for my 98. If I was going to throw 'nice stuff' at my XJ I would throw an Optima red top at it first, second I would spend the $100 and get the 3M injector cleaning kit [I borrow my neighbors and only buy the consumable cannister once a year], buy a stock valve cover and send it out to have it chromed :)

I use NAPA caps and rotors. They have brass terminals.NAPA wires -lifetime warrenty.
Stock Jeep parts are ok but priced higher in my area.

The BEST wires of all are Magna-Core. They are a bit pricey, though. Next best (and not far behind) are Mopar Performance wires. Should be around $40 a set from a dealer. For your year, the Mopar Performance cap and rotor used to have brass contacts, and the set cost less than the OEM cap alone. The last Mopar Performance cap and rotor set I bought came with aluminum contacts, but that was for an '88 so they may be different. If NAPA's cap and rotor are brass, go with them. Blue Streak brand always used to have brass contacts, too, but I haven't seen them available recently.

I have the Magnecor wires on my jeep and have no complaints. I had Jacobs wires and after 3 years they were badly faded and one of the electrodes stayed with a plug one time after removing the wire. I knew they had a lifetime guarantee but decided I would rather spend money than deal with the system. I also use the NAPA cap and rotor, and recently replaced my coil with a NAPA unit as well. I run the Bosch plus 2's because the gap is fixed and I hate dealing with that anyway. With this combo I noticed an immediate increase in pickup and better acceleration.
