Bent Axle housing repair?!

The factory used an alignment bar when they pressed straight tubes into the center section. They never bent anything to get it to line up.

If you realy want to save this particular axle you could get a new set of inner c's and retube it. Then you could rotate your center section and really get the caster bang on. There's threads on Pirate on making your own alignment bar, and I think that maybe Cal did that when he polished his turd.

I found one off a TJ for $50. I think Ill go that route

Ya I passed on the TJ d30. I wasn't sure if it was hp or lp so I looked it up. I thought they would have changed it to HP by 98. Oh well.

actually they went backwards. LP in the TJ's, and then LP in all the xj's 2000+.

have you tried car-part.com to look up the local junkyard part5s? most list the axle ratio.

all of the junkyards around here are a rip off. They want at least $300.

no pull a parts nearby? $300 isn't bad if it's complete knuckle to knuckle, lots of useful spare parts you'd end up with to sale or keep. It's a rip off if it's just the housing and bare knuckles though.

nope closest one is 3 hours north or south. The only way I'd spend $300 on a D30 is if was already geared to 4:10 and fully trussed lol.

I just sold mine for 1k... :)

I also just paid $200 for a Wagoneer 44 and built it.
You sold a DANA 30 for $1,000.00??? It had to have been fully trussed, locked, 4:56 gears, chromoly 27 spline shafts, twin piston calipers etc etc. haha. Right on for you man!

I'd stuff a new housing in there... can reuse the gears just have to set them back up. Truss the new one before doing anything this dumb/fun with it. If you never hit the rocks, maybe even put a nice trail grading truss on the bottom as well as the regular one on the top.

300 is pretty steep, I can get any frontend for 130 around here. That includes 44s and 60s if I manage to find one in the you pull it (let an 8 lug J20 LP44 go to the crusher because I was short on time/money, and grabbed a balljoint F350 HP60... wish I had grabbed both because I could have used the knuckles+brakes off the J20 at the very least.)

Wow, that's exactly what it was.
haha really? ya that's the only way it could be worth that much IMO. Anybody through a D60 in the front of your xj?

Ya I went out and checked it this morning with a level, the passenger tube was a little bit off and both inner c's were bent pretty bad. It's also leaking from the pass axle seal. I'm looking on pirate4x4 right now for one. There are deals to be had out there I just have to find them! Hell, I just bought an 8.8 with disc brakes for $100.00

it's prob too beefy for my application and I would imagine it weighs a ton compared to the d30. I don't plan on running 40" tires either lol.

If you don't plan on going over 37s I wouldn't worry about it.

Just build a 44 already. I've got a little more than 800 in mine. I still need to buy chromo shafts and super joints...
